Why? Let’s talk about it!

•It’s function is to sustain life •The veins resemble a tree 🌳

Fun facts about the placenta

✨blood from both mom and baby pass through the placenta but never mixes
✨identical twins can sometimes share a placenta
✨it’s the only “disposable” organ
✨the placenta prepares your body to breastfeed 🤱🏻

The placenta is responsible for so many more cool things! I chose to name my doula business after the placenta and breastfeeding which can also be referred to as tree of life because mother and baby connect at the breast and she is the source of life and nourishment for her baby 🖤

Have you ever wondered why you have an irresistible urge to kiss your baby all over?!

✨Kissing your baby changes your milk✨

•when you kiss your baby you are sampling the pathogens on their skin
•that kiss then signals your body to produce antibodies

So kiss away mama! Our bodies are amazing…from protecting our babies in our womb to protecting them from germs with our milk!

👶🏼Umbilical Cord👶🏼

✨Fun fact ✨ 10-30% of babies are born with the cord around their necks or Nuchal cord but thanks to a built in mechanism called Whartons jelly it’s usually not a problem!

The Three jobs of the cord
• It delivers oxygen to baby
• It delivers nutrients to baby
• It removes blood rich in carbon dioxide & removes blood depleted in nutrients

Why is that first hour after your baby is born so important?!

⭐️ skin to skin promotes strong bond between mothers/fathers and baby
⭐️ skin to skin helps baby regulate body temperature
⭐️ lowers baby risk of low blood sugar
⭐️ baby can better control their respirations

Did you know babies who latched within the first 1-2 hours are far more likely to breastfeed long term?!
