Welcome little only 🤍 Only separated by a few layers of flesh just moments before. A grand introduction, despite knowing one another and existing together for 9 months. This sweet girl in harmony with her mom once again after the long journey of birth; finding her heart beat and warmth while skin to skin in the familiar quiet. Thank you Jesus for the sacredness of birth and precious life 🤍 We owe it all to you!

This sweet angel made her entrance into the world and it was such a special one. Merrie went through days of early labor only to be welcomed with an unknown covid diagnoses at triage. Both her midwife and hospital staff were amazing at continuing to support her birth plan as she moved into steady active labor despite the unexpected circumstances.

A little back story, Merrie and I knew each other in high school but lost touch after we graduated. When I announced I was a doula she reached out and said she hoped to use me one day! Soon after, she messaged me and said, “I’m pregnant!!!!!!” After we established care, turns out Merrie and Nathan live about 7 houses down from me. The best!

Merrie and Nathan were an incredible team during her labor. She practiced for and prayed over this birth and it showed. We blasted her Christian Hypnobirthing tracks, spoke affirmations over her and Lydia’s life, did a whole lot of counter pressure, supported Merrie physically and emotionally together, worked through techniques for her back labor and nausea, did water therapy, and she dug deep to find the inner strength she was born with to bring her daughter into this world. Once she was pushing, she was laughing and apologizing for being “too short to grab the squat bars” 😂 … she was so collected she didn’t even realize how collected she was 🥲 The whole room was filled with so much joy and laughter. There was such a sweet and calm atmosphere while Lydia was being born and Merrie was in full control. It was so redemptive to see Merrie beaming at the finish line when at the beginning, the unmedicated birth she had prepared for since even before she was pregnant seemed so far away to her. I’ll never forget her utterly shocked face when she pulled Lydia onto her chest and held her with pride! SHE DID THAT 👏🏼

It’s moment like this I will never, ever take for granted being a part of. I spent almost 24 hours with this couple providing labor support but witnessed them transform into all new people 🤍 I’ll forever and always be the blessed one!

✨ Loose jaw, loose hands, loose f***y ✨

I spend a good amount of time reminding my clients to relax their entire mind and bodies in order to help bring their baby down. A loose jaw/ hands = a loose pelvis which = equals baby having enough room to move down and out! This takes intentional PRACTICE as it goes against our natural pain response. When we feel intense pressure (as we do in labor) we automatically want to tense up but try and do the opposite- relax and surrender. Relax your shoulders and voice, when you want to tense and go high… go low, open, and focus all of your energy down. You got this 💕

Mama, when you’re in labor remind your self… lower your shoulders, open your palms and surrender, breathe through your jaw and surrender, and focus all of your energy down. The only way out is through 🕊

rocked her second unmedicated birth and it was an absolute honor to support her as every surge brought her closer to meeting baby Jack! The intensity of transition and pushing was soon followed by smiles and long sighs of relief as she wrapped him onto her chest and realized she did it and he was here- to witness this magic will never, ever get old! Jack was the most peaceful and squishy fresh baby laying so content on his mama’s chest 🤍

Also, when doula clients become friends it truly is the sweetest gift ever! Love you, Snodgrass family!

💫 This little one was in charge the entirety of labor- when he decided he wanted to take his time, he did… and when he decided it was time, it was! Your mama worked so hard and truly surrendered to your story. You are loved baby boy!

Out of respect for this family, no pictures of this angel, so just take my word for it, the newborn sweetness is unreal.

Things just got real- you see those two lines and now you’re feeling totally overwhelmed with what provider to choose. Or maybe you’ve seen your provider and every appointment feels rushed and is anything but encouraging and informative. Here are some tips!

Start with these questions. These questions are IMPORTANT! You can tell so much about your doctors birth philosophy and what their standard model of care is with not only their answer, but also HOW they answer. If they shut you down or the vibe is simply off, they may not be the provider for you! If you’re preparing for a physiological/undisturbed birth (i.e. no interventions- Pitocin, epidural, natural third stage, etc.) and your doctor rarely attends them, maybe y’all are not a good match. But, you can find one!

Remember, you can interview your provider before hiring them and you can transfer your care at any time. Even though you are the patient and they are a trained professional, their job is to serve YOU. Ask the important questions in the beginning so you feel supported, cared for, and respected throughout your entire pregnancy and during labor. Your birth room should never be a battle field 🤍

// Bump appreciation post 🥑 //

“Are you sure there’s not two in there?”
“No way you’re 30 weeks?! You’re so tiny!”
“I can’t imagine you making it to your due date, you’re huge!”
Or my personal favorite, “You look like you’re about to pop!” 10x a day when in fact I had ~5 more months to go with my chunky Noah girl

These comments typically come from a good place and a genuine interest in your pregnancy but bumps aren’t one size fits all 🙃 Big bump, small bump, lopsided bump, wide bump, high bump- it’s your bump, and it’s the cutest!
