🩵 **November is Diabetes Awareness Month** — a time to recognize not just the physical impact of diabetes, but the emotional toll it can take too. Managing blood sugar, medications, and lifestyle changes can lead to stress, anxiety, or even burnout. Mental health and diabetes are deeply connected — caring for one means caring for the other. 💙 Let’s spread awareness, show support, and remind one another that no one faces this journey alone.

Food insecurity can hit harder than we expect; it’s not just about hunger, it hits mentally, too. 💭
It’s a quiet reminder that access to food isn’t only physical, it’s emotional. The loss of daily routines, stability, or even a sense of control can weigh heavily on the mind.

Food insecurity affects more than our plates — it touches our peace, focus, and confidence. 🧠

Healing starts with awareness. When feelings of worry or emptiness show up, try to pause and reframe them. It’s not about shame or failure, it’s about understanding your situation with compassion and redirecting that energy toward hope and support.

Through our Pathways Community HUB initiative, we understand that challenges like food insecurity rarely stand alone. That’s why we work alongside residents to address interconnected health and social risk factors — from mental health support, transportation, and beyond. Together, we help individuals and families navigate pathways toward stability, resilience, and renewed confidence. To learn more about how we support residents of Harris County that are experiencing food insecurity, explore the link provided: https://www.nbhp.org/pathways-community-hub.html (https://www.nbhp.org/pathways-community-hub.html)

Taking care of your mental health is just as essential as feeding your body — one truly nourishes the other. When we support food security, we’re also supporting emotional well-being. 💚

🎥 NBHP–WREDI Behavioral Health Summer Externship Spotlight

Meet Rodney, a passionate social work student who took a leap into the world of behavioral health through the NBHP–WREDI Summer Externship Program! 🌟

After hearing about the program from his university (Texas Southern University) faculty, Rodney decided to use his summer to gain hands-on experience in the field — and it paid off. During his four-week externship, he worked at West Oaks Hospital and The Women’s Home (Jacqueline House), supporting both veterans and women in recovery.

Rodney shared how this experience helped him apply classroom knowledge to real-world practice — from client engagement to understanding agency operations. Most importantly, it confirmed his passion for working with veterans facing substance use and mental health challenges.

His advice to future students? đź’¬

“Even if it seems inconvenient, take the opportunity! The experience, the connections, and the growth are worth it.”

Thank you, Rodney, for sharing your journey and inspiring future social work professionals! đź’™

Domestic violence doesn’t just leave physical scars — it impacts mental health in ways that can be invisible but deeply painful. Anxiety, depression, fear… these are often the silent battles survivors face every day. Yet, only about 30% of people experiencing domestic violence reach out for help and never get it. If you’re struggling, please know it’s okay to ask for support. And if someone shares their story with you, be that listening ear they desperately need. Sometimes, just knowing someone cares can make all the difference. You are not alone. 💜
