Time in July and August feels like 2x faster than usual...and I finally had time this week to reflect and process my experience at .eatingdisorders 🫶🏻

💛 Thank you .rd and for your time and effort in creating this safe space for us to learn and unlearn. This is a space which we can share uncomfortable conversations, reflect on thought-provoking ideas and offer support to one another. Words can't even encompass my gratitude towards to you both!!!

💛 Thank you for working on this self-funded research together (and bearing with my heightened anxiety lol). This research idea blossomed out of conversations, just being curious on what types of eating disorder care are available in East Asia while we both experience life transitions/ties with Asia. I cannot be more grateful for such an amazing research partner and friend!!! Excited to continue collaborating on future projects and increasing ED awareness within Asian and AANHPI communities 🙌🏻

💛 New and old friends, colleagues and fellow speakers: sharing space, solidarity, connection and growth with y'all has been the most wonderful experience ever. I enjoyed volunteering, line dancing, hugging, chitchatting over food and sharing authentic conversations. Thank you for being compassionate and fierce on making this world less oppressing on bodies, preferences, cultures and minds 💪🏻

Hello world 🖐️ It's been a while since I posted. To take care of my mental health , I am not as active on social media anymore 💚 So please reach out via my website and happy to chat from there!

Anyways, just want to share a recent accomplishment - I voted for the first time!!!

I left my hometown Hong Kong when I was 17 years old, so I was never eligible to vote back then. Since I moved to the US, I was on different school and work visas so I couldn't vote as a foreigner. Earlier this year, I became an US citizen and I could finally exercise my right to vote 🇺🇸

is the fastest growing voting population within US, and we need to use our right to influence policy decisions and make our voices heard. (On a side note, these environmental and social issues have a huge impact on our health and wellness.)

Primary elections are coming up in many states, so please VOTE 💪

I spoke with Real Simple recently about foods that are high in Vitamin Bs :) Do you know that Vitamin Bs are essential to support your metabolism and many organs in your body (i.e. heart, brain, etc.)?

Learn more about that from the article below:

Out of the 13 essential vitamins our body needs, the B vitamins make up eight of them. To help you include vitamin B foods in your diet, here is a list of the top ten best sources, according to nutritionists.

I will be speaking at FNCE this year!!! (insert "Mom I made it" 🤣)
Very honored and excited to be part of this AMAZING panel, which we will be discussing how social determinants of health (SDoH) impact different community groups and change how dietitians work during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Specifically, I will share how I work with my AAPI clients during the pandemic. Here are some keywords to my session as a preview 😉 : mental health, hate crimes, negative body image, disordered eating behaviors...
Dietitians and nutrition professionals, come join me on Sunday, October 17, 2021 at 4:00-5:30 PM Central Time 💚 (1.5 CPEU offered)

Tell me one thing that brightens up your day today 👇

A client today reflected on her journey dealing with negative body image and binge eating.

What really touched me was when she said, "When I first started, I had a slight hope that you could help me fix my problem easily. But then as the journey goes on, I realized that THIS and also life is a process with ups and downs. So now, everyday I am learning to find things that brighten up my day. Despite having setbacks, I am feeling more confident that I can move forward again."

Acknowledge the small changes you make along the way 💛 I am happy and honored to work with these wonderful people and support their journey to live a more fulfilling life.

Side note --- these ranunculi brighten up my day and remind me of summer! I am just loving the longer hours of sunlight here in the Bay Area 😉

So honored to be featured on 💛🙏 Thank you so much!
Uplifting and highlighting AAPI dietitians cannot come at a better timing, especially during this year when hate crimes against Asians and Asian Americans are on the rise. While I cannot represent everyone within the AAPI dietitian community, I hope my story could inspire immigrants and foreign students seeking to make a difference in the dietetics world 😀 for my spotlight interview!
"New week, new RDN Spotlight! Meet Janice Chow, MS, RD (.rd). Janice's interest in food was cultivated early on while she grew up living with her grandma who taught her everything there was to know about food.

She completed her undergrad at UC Berkeley and graduate school and her DI at Tufts University. She majored in pre-med with hopes of becoming a doctor in order to help people but once she took a nutrition course she realized she could help others understand how nutrition impacts their health. She changed her major to dietetics and the rest is history!

Although Janice had many challenges along the way, especially in trying to gain employment as an international student, she now has her own private practice. Read her full story via link in bio.

About Janice - Owner/Dietitian behind The Mindful Chow

Hey this is Janice!

I am a Registered Dietitian, currently living in Boston. I help Asians to achieve healthier lifestyle with a mind-body approach.

My own journey to mind-body wellness didn't come easy.

Growing up in a typical Asian household, I was raised by high pressure to become successful by looking a certain way and pursuing prestigious careers. Under high stress from school and work, I slowly neglected my body cues and my health deteriorated.
