π¬ A Hard but Important Truth in Senior Care
This is something many professionals in senior care see regularly, yet it can be one of the hardest realities for families to accept.
Love does not always equal capacity.
Families often want to keep their loved ones at home because they love them deeply and that love is admirable. However, love alone cannot always prevent falls, medication errors, wandering, caregiver exhaustion, or increasing medical needs.
These are incredibly difficult decisions, and many families carry the weight of wanting to do everything they can on their own.
So I want to ask an honest question to other professionals in the field:
In your experience, do families sometimes wait too long to consider higher levels of care?
What do you often see as the turning point that leads families to finally say yes to additional support?
β’ A medical crisis
β’ Hospitalization
β’ Caregiver burnout
β’ A safety incident
β’ Financial realities
Open conversations like this help us educate families earlier, support caregivers better, and hopefully prevent emergencies before they happen.
I would truly value hearing perspectives from others working in senior care. π
