The Legend is retiring!

Join us this term in wishing Dr. Alberto Mendoza the best for his retirement. After 17 years with Vet Tech Institute of Houston, we think he’s earned it! Dr. Mendoza was a founding faculty member of the program. He quite literally helped to write and to teach every course in the curriculum! This means that every student who has ever graduated from our program had Dr. Mendoza as an instructor. Through the years he has been an integral part of growing and improving the school. Most recently he has found his more permanent role in teaching his two passions-exotic animals and farm and food animals. He has always been a favorite among the instructors and leaves some very big shoes to fill. He will be greatly missed but we are very excited for him as he enters his well-deserved retirement years.

We invite all alumni to submit memories and pictures of Dr. Mendoza to be shared with him and in a slide show to be shown at a bon-voyage evening later this term. (Details to follow) Please send any pictures and memories to MendozaRetires@VTI.edu. They will be forwarded to Dr. Mendoza and printed out to fill a memory book for him. You are also welcome to send cards and well-wishes to the school. You may stop by the school but we cannot guarantee he will be at the school or available to greet you when you do.

Let’s flood the in-box with those memories and pictures!

Our Story

At the Vet Tech Institute we are focused on helping our students achieve their goal to become a veterinary technician. Students can graduate in 18 months with plenty of hands on experience.

The first location of the Vet Tech Institute was as a program of the Median School of Allied Health Careers founded in Pittsburgh in 1958. Since then the Vet Tech Institute has grown to include a total of 4 locations nationwide.

The facility includes an on-site kennel and plenty of industry standard equipment. Through the well-rounded curriculum, students learn and practice animal nursing, how to run laboratory tests, perform radiology, assist in surgery and provide animal care. Near the end of the program students have a course to help them prepare for the national certification exam. Most of the β€œpatient” experience is focused on dogs and cats, but students also get hands on practice and learn about rodents, exotics and large animals.

Thinking about a career with animals? Come visit us and see if this is right for you! Call us at 713-275-2736 or schedule your visit online at https://www.vettechinstitute.edu/schedule-tour.
