International Hip Dysplasia Institute

International Hip Dysplasia Institute Learn more about hip dysplasia at: www.hipdysplasia.org My wife and I first became aware of hip dysplasia when our son Wyatt was born with the condition.

At the time we thought that the condition was just in dogs. We quickly came to find that not only is it very common, but also that there was very little universal information out there about the condition. You can imagine how difficult it was to hear that “it happens sometimes” and that it “might correct itself”. Those aren’t exactly the kind of answers that new parents want to hear. After researching on our own, we realized how this condition could cause any number of problems with Wyatt as he got older. We just weren’t willing to accept that “it might correct itself”. Through our research we heard of the Pavlik Harness, a common correctional device, but due to Wyatt’s smaller, 6 pound birth, we would literally have to tape him into the harness. The Day of Movement is this Saturday, and a great way to get involved and support The International Hip Dysplasia Institute and its mission of reducing the physical, social, and economic burden for children and adults affected by neonatal hip instability and developmental dysplasia of the hip, is to make a donation to the IHDI.

Donate $10 or more to the International Hip Dysplasia Institute in October, and receive a wristband as a thank you!

Parker’s father, Eric, is thrilled that his baby girl’s hip dysplasia was caught shortly after birth. She is currently brace-free and is enjoying some happy, healthy hips! Inspired by his daughter’s journey, Eric will be running THREE marathons in 2023 and is using his running to raise awareness about hip dysplasia and to support the IHDI!

Research & Education is a critical part of the IHDI Mission. The IHDI provides funding towards published peer reviewed materials which allows them to be “open access". These materials could not otherwise be viewed without expense. This endowment allows us to inform the public and provide new information to physicians so that together we can reduce the physical, social, and economic burden for children and adults that have DDH.
