On the 3rd of August 2014 Daesh (ISIS) attacked and captured the city of Sinjar and neighbouring towns in Northern Iraq, mainly inhabited by Yazidis. It is estimated that up to 5000 Yazidi men were executed within hours, women and children captured. Thousands escaped and fled to Mount Sinjar where they faced slaughter at the Hands of Daesh who surrounded the mountain, if they left and dehydration, starvation and exposure to the elements if they stayed. On the 8th of August Barack Obama authorised air strikes against Daesh over Iraq in order to try and prevent genocide from being carried out and attempted to drop aid to 40,000 Yazidis trapped on the mountainside after being driven from their homes. We now know that men, women and children were separated. Mothers told they would never see their children again, women and girls as young as 7 sold as sex slaves, children beheaded, little boys taken to camps to conform and become Daesh fighters. Reports of gang rape, beheadings and executions are common. Some managed to escape and now face life in refugee camps in Iraq and Syria. Some are attempting to leave and make it to safety. This page has been set up to raise awareness and raise money for Yazda, a charity set up after the attack. They are working tirelessly night and day to bring an end to this horror and help those that they can. Lack of medical supplies, education, psychological recovery programmes, food, clothing, sanitation and everything else that we take for granted is desperately needed. Thousands of women and children are still living with Daesh facing a daily life that cannot be imagined.
