Creating and Crafting with Shirley

Creating and Crafting with Shirley Description:
Teaching creativity through the expression of paper art is developed through using specific card and crafting tools.

A variety of art techniques and disciplines will be explored. Paper density, various inks and their properties, adhesives, and dies for cutting patterns are a few examples. Additionally, the students will use concept learning in the areas of math, measuring, shading, and design. These will vary depending on the project. Some elements of recycling can be integrated with three-dimensional projects. Finally, many of these projects make for community involvement or fund raising, community involvement. Many of my students make cards to support Texas Children’s Hospital, Veterans, or simply giving care cards to retirement communities. Age ranges: 5-90 Age appropriateness depends on attention and developmental concept ability. Having graduated with a Child Development degree and working with special needs students, allows for success at any level of development. Projects: One per week – to be completed each one hour session. Samples include: covered composition book, canister, Post-It note pad cover, pencil topper, paper clip topper, 4 themed cards, simple box or a variety of the above. Cost: $100/ 8 week sessions (approximately)
Bring: Everything is provided, however, free your mind enough to create and use your imagination.

This is a card I was requisitioned to make for a little girl who is gaving a “royalty” first birthday. Pretty simple but I like it. It tells a story of a little girl needing to get to the castle for her birthday party. There’s a dragon patrol but little does she know the fairy behind her is keeping her safe and lighting the way with fairy light that blinds dragons.

I’m creating birthday cards this month. First, I die cut all of the pieces in white and then add colors. The polka dot background is made ombré by using a stencil and sponging the colors. It’s a process but I like the outcome.

Stampin’ Up! has a monthly Paper Pumpkin project kit. I took this kit (see broshure at the top) which makes 9 cards and made an alternative into 24 cards. I love their kits!

The Rabbit Hash General Store in Kentucky has been open since 1831, making it one of the oldest continuously operating general stores in the U.S. Located along the banks of the Ohio River, this little shop is the heart of a quirky town famous for electing dogs as mayor...and yes, you’ll likely find one napping on the porch. Inside, you’ll find a mix of groceries, antiques, and collectibles, all housed in a building steeped in history. The store has survived major floods and a devastating fire in 2016, with mud still in the attic as proof. Open daily...stop by, explore, and sit on the porch for a bit.

The low-carb choices for food worked too. Okay, well the Homemade Mrs. Field’s cookies was a bust. Oh, and the homemade Chex mix. But, there were other choices in my defense. 😂
