So here we are…caught in the spiral of falsehoods in the “new age.” Are we prepared for this challenge?

The Veil of Greed as Evil: How Manipulation Masquerades as Virtue

Evil rarely shows up wearing horns. It cloaks itself in charm, authority, righteousness - even compassion. History and current events reveal a haunting pattern: the most destructive forces often rise not with brute force, but with veiled intentions that seduce, blind, and manipulate the masses. Evil, when cleverly disguised, appears as a savior before it strikes as a tyrant.

Historical Deception: Hi**er and the Promise of Restoration

Adolf Hi**er rose to power under the guise of national revival. Promising to restore Germany’s pride and economic stability, he exploited the country’s despair after World War I. Millions rallied behind his message, blinded by patriotic fervor, unable or unwilling to see the genocidal intentions hidden beneath. The result was catastrophic: the Holocaust and a world at war.

Modern Manipulation: North Korea’s Cult of Personality

Kim Jong-un maintains control through a carefully crafted illusion of strength and benevolence. State-controlled media paints him as a heroic leader, shielding citizens from the brutal repression and starvation that define their reality. The regime’s veil is so thick, many within its borders remain unaware of their own suffering, manipulated into reverence for their oppressor.

Contemporary Echoes: Misinformation in Democracies

Even in modern democracies, manipulation thrives under the guise of ideology or moral superiority. Charismatic leaders use fear, identity politics, and disinformation to sow division and gather power. Followers, believing they’re defending truth or justice, sometimes become pawns in a deeper game of control. When people are emotionally charged, they often fail to question the motives of those they idolize.

Why We Fall for It

Greed exploits human needs—belonging, safety, purpose. When someone or something promises to meet those needs, we lower our guard. The veil is woven from what we want to believe, and once we accept the illusion, we often defend it—sometimes viciously.

The Antidote: Discernment and Courage

To see through the veil, we must question appearances, examine motives, and listen to the quiet discomfort that warns us something is off. Evil hates scrutiny. It thrives in silence, in groupthink, in blind allegiance. Only by facing truth—however uncomfortable—can we resist being lured by the mask.

As history and current events continue to prove, evil doesn’t come uninvited. It knocks politely, smiles warmly, and waits for us to open the door. Our job is to see beyond the veil.

Today, on September 17, 2023, our beloved Shaktima crossed over at 3:30 pm. We were all with her as she took her last breath. This was so damn hard. Cancer is not kind.

For those of you who spent time with Shaktima at Jennyoga or the Texas Yoga Conference, you know how special is this precious being. She will be forever in my soul. The love and respect that I feel for her will live on into infinity with me.

I’ll never forget the day she told me what she wanted to be called. Simi Saxena and I were in the studio waiting area, and I said the word “Shakti” in a “normal” conversation. She was 10 weeks old, turned to me and bobbled her head. So I said Shakti, again. And, she bobbled in agreement, again. She chose her name. It was amazing!

Namaste’ Shakti. We love you so much. 🙏🏻🦋🐾

Hi! It’s Jenny B.! Yesterday I had a meeting with Ale and we are good to go for 2023!! We are hoping that the Glasscock School and Moody Center at Rice University will be our venue. Keep your fingers, toes, and eyes crossed, cOMmUnity 🫶🏼

I’d like to put together a committee this year who will vote and choose all presentations for the 2023 Texas Yoga Conference. This does not mean that you cannot ALSO apply to present. 🙂 So if you are interested, please submit a proposal as well 🙂

Proposals and Volunteering to serve on a TYA Committee: Please email us at info@texyoga.org

We are also looking for a catchy theme that bridges people back to oneness. Ale and I were having fun with the idea of Mind, Mend, and Bend! 🤣

We want the 2023 theme to mend duality, bridge humans to hearts (rather than fragmenting from politics), and focus on mind-body (and mental) health as a whole.

I don’t know about you guys, but I feel politics has become an invasive distraction. They are too much in our faces and streaming rhetoric everywhere we turn. I feel my free time is often being consumed by its influence and I just want back that feeling government is working in the background for we the people. I’m not interested in faction. NO MORE. I think we’ve seen enough and where it will lead. We hope you all align with this too 🙏🏻💕

I think the last few years have been a huge eye-opener for many of us. I can only speak for myself. But, if there was ever anyone who stepped on my toes or I felt my feathers ruffled toward at any point in my life, I love you. I honor you. And, I thank you. The prism is a beautiful gift during meditation. And I am sorry if I have ever stepped on anyone’s toes or ever ruffled anyone’s feathers, ever. Please forgive me.

Sometimes I guess things get worse before it can get better. We age and wise up, and may see things from other perspectives. But for me, and I hope all of you, I want to focus on making things better moving forward 🙏🏻 As we know in our practice and teachings, peace begins from within 🎶

In saying all this, perhaps help us formulate the TYC 2023 theme. We invite you to leave a catchy three-word phrase in the comments below 😍

Namaste’ All!
