Many of you may know that I have spent years training and pushing myself to accomplish endurance racing goals. It is time to give back to some fantastic families who have to endure much greater challenges than I could even imagine. I have had the privilege to see the benefits of this great organization and their efforts to help the families of children who suffer from chronic illness in the Bone Marrow Transplant Unit at Texas Children's Hospital in Houston, TX. This race, and hopefully many more to come, are to provide awareness and support for this amazing group of people just doing their small part to give back. Let's do just that, give back to the communities we live in, to the families who live day-to-day with such endurance that it would amaze the greatest of athletes. Here is glimpse into their mission:
His Grace Foundation was founded in 1997 by John and Erin Kiltz in response to the needs their family witnessed while their youngest daughter, Gracie, was a cancer patient at Texas Children's Hospital (TCH). While they had a strong support base helping them through this very difficult time, John and Erin were firsthand observers of the struggles other families were facing as they dealt with the practical challenges of a critically ill, hospitalized child. In that spirit, HGF was founded as a volunteer organization designed to be "grace in the need of the moment" for patients and families on the Bone Marrow Transplant Unit of Texas Children's Hospital. HGF addresses daily needs of patients and families through services such as free parking, catered meals, arts programs, gift baskets, outpatient housing, weekly shopping, emergency funding and more.
