Alhamdulillah, we had a fruitful 8-week session that ended in November. Participants from the UK, Germany, Canada and various cities in the United States formed a sisterhood that continues. We have received more interest in starting in other communities and are working toward training facilitators. Our next 8-week online session will begin in May just after Ramadan, Insha'Allah. Congratulations to Saman Essa, our 2019 ALIM Scholarship recipient.

Saman is currently in a combined M.A. and Ph.D. program in Counseling and has volunteered in several different capacities. Upon her return, Saman will work with the Sisters Committee to bring spiritually uplifting programming to young Muslim women.

Join us in praying for Saman a good journey, full of intellectual and spiritual growth, and one that revives the entire community. Ameen.

To promote women taking ownership of their spirituality and education, the Sisters Committee awards an annual scholarship to the highly acclaimed ALIM - American Learning Institute for Muslims summer program.

The ALIM Summer Program is an intensive 3-weeks of study, where students have the opportunity to spend time with some of the best American Muslim scholars in the United States and learn about religious sciences.

Meet this year's ALIM Scholarship Selection Committee, all local leaders making a difference in our community, Alhamdulillah. Insha'Allah we will announce our scholarship recipient this week!

We are so proud of our dear sister and Sisters Committee member, Sidra Qazi, who will graduate with a Masters of Islamic Studies and Leadership from Bayan Claremont this weekend.

Sidra has spent several years pursuing Islamic Studies and Arabic overseas. She studied at Ma'had al-Fath in Syria where she received certification in Qur'an memorization with Tajweed. She completed her undergraduate degree in Islamic Law and Theology from Zaytuna College and will continue her education in pursuit of a Ph.D. in Islamic Studies.

She teaches Islamic Studies at her local mosque and has also taught Arabic and Balagha (Rhetoric) at Zaytuna College. Sidra hopes to continue teaching and begin translating classical Arabic works into English. She resides in Houston with her Husband and young son.

We pray that Allah continues to illuminate your path, increase you in sincerity and accept your work. Ameen. You are an inspiration to all women who aspire to know God and worship Him with more devotion.

Happy Friday! Alhamdulillah, the team raised $9825 for MS research. God willing, 20+ of us plan to ride 150 miles from Houston to Austin to raise awareness about Multiple Sclerosis. Thank you for your duas and donations.

A special thanks to Nashida- نشيدا صبحي for being the inspiration for our ride this year. Fareeha Aziz for being our team captain and Anisah Khan for making many necessary arrangements. Thanks to the couple that has always encouraged us all to be active Muslims Sonya Khan and Salman Khan ( ) and to Islamic Society of Greater Houston for sponsoring our team shirts and team dinner. Please keep them all in your prayers.

We pray for good intentions, good weather and a good end. Please make dua that the team leaves and arrives healthy and is able to complete the challenge before us. Ameen.

Announcing our summer ALIM scholarship! Open to sisters in the Greater Houston community. We encourage undergrad and grad students, stay at home mothers, working professionals and retired individuals to apply!

Hamida Bano Mitha was our first recipient in 2018, and her experience at ALIM encouraged her to apply to earn her Bachelor's in Islamic Studies. Alhamdulillah, she continues her journey at Zaytuna College. We pray that God blesses her journey and increases her in knowledge and closeness to Him.
