Yesterday was National Walking Day, and here's something that might actually surprise you about some insurance plans:

Your health insurance may pay you to get moving.

Seriously.

Many health plans include wellness programs with real perks such as gym membership reimbursements, discounts on fitness apps, and incentives for hitting activity goals through a wearable device. If you have an HSA-eligible plan, you may also be able to use those funds toward certain fitness expenses.

If you’re looking to become more active, your annual preventive care visits can also be a great place to have a conversation with your doctor about building out a fitness or wellness routine that actually works for your life.

Staying active is one of the best long-term strategies for keeping your healthcare costs down. Fewer claims, better outcomes, lower costs over time. Your insurance company knows this, which is why many of them are willing to invest in keeping you healthy.

Your health plan offers more than just care for when you're sick. It's a tool to help you stay well and avoid illness or injury.

Not sure what wellness benefits you're sitting on? Let's find out together.

Spring is a time of change. The seasons change, and sometimes life changes with it, too.

New jobs. New babies. Graduations. Moves. Weddings.

And every single one of those life changes can affect your health insurance, but most people don't realize it until it's too late.

Kid graduating from college? They fall off your plan at 26. You have a narrow window to get them their own coverage; don't wait until there's a gap and they’re left uninsured.

New job offer? Don't assume the new employer's plan is automatically better. Run the numbers, compare premiums, deductibles, networks, and coverage before you decide.

Moving? Confirm that your doctors are still in-network under your current plan, and update your address with your insurer right away. You'd be surprised how many people miss critical notices sent to an old address.

Getting married? Compare plans with your spouse and figure out whose coverage makes the most sense for your household.

Every one of these events triggers a Special Enrollment Period. You have 60 days to make changes outside of Open Enrollment, but you have to move fast. Miss the window, and you're locked in until November.

Call us when life changes. We'll walk you through your options, what you need to do, and what deadlines you're working with.

You focus on the moment. We'll keep you covered.

It's almost April Fools' Day, and honestly? Some health insurance myths sound so good we wish they weren't myths.

🤡 "All prescriptions are $5!"
If only. Drug tiers mean your costs can vary wildly; generics are affordable, brand names less so, and specialty drugs can run hundreds a month. Know your formulary.

🤡 "Every doctor is in-network!"
Networks exist to control costs, and they change. Always verify before booking, even if you saw that same doctor last year.

🤡 "Deductibles never reset!"
They reset every January 1st, which is exactly why people panic-schedule appointments in December and why the post-holiday bills hit so hard.

🤡 "You can switch your plan anytime!"
Open Enrollment exists for a reason. Miss it, and you're locked in until your next qualifying life event.

Now here's what IS true:
You can have an insurance agent who actually answers the phone. Someone who finds the right plan for your life, explains everything in plain English, and goes to bat for you when claims get denied, or bills stop making sense.

April and Dave Clark from Clark Health Insurance, not a 1-800 number. Real people who know your name and your situation.

Got 15 minutes this weekend?

Tax season already has you looking at paperwork; you might as well make sure your health coverage is dialed in while you're at it.

Take a quick look at our spring health insurance checklist:
✓ Verify your P*P is still in-network for 2026. Networks change; doctors switch groups. Confirm before you need an appointment.

✓ Check if your prescriptions can switch to 90-day supplies. You'll save on copays and make fewer trips to the pharmacy.

✓ Review whether any life changes require a coverage update. New baby? Got married? Kid turning 26? These all trigger Special Enrollment Periods.

✓ Confirm your preferred pharmacy is still in-network. Some plans offer lower copays at preferred pharmacies, and it’s worth the quick check.

✓ Update your emergency contact info with your insurer. When was the last time you verified they have current information on file?

✓ Check your deductible progress. Knowing how much you've met so far this year helps you plan for upcoming expenses.

This quick health insurance checklist takes less time than a grocery run, and could save you from a surprise bill or a coverage gap down the road.

Questions on any of these? Send us a message. We're happy to help you sort it out.

No, butter isn't a health food, but with these tips in mind, it can be part of a healthy, balanced diet.

Losing your job is stressful enough without worrying about whether you can still afford to take your kid to the doctor.

Health coverage is usually the last thing people want to think about when they're job hunting, but it's one of the first things that hits them. The panic of "what now?" is real.

That's where we come in.

We help people figure out what their options actually are, what they'll really cost, and how to get covered without overpaying. Because the system isn't built to be easy to understand, and when you're already stressed, it shouldn't be one more thing you have to decode alone.

If you or someone you know is facing a job transition and wondering what happens to your health coverage, send us a message. We'll walk through it together.

If you or someone you know needs to update their insurance coverage, look no further. I'm happy to help.

Your insurance company is counting on you not knowing your rights. We're here to change that, especially on National Health Care Rights Day.

Here are 5 rights you have as a health insurance policyholder, and how to actually use them:

1. Right to appeal a denied claim
If your insurer denies coverage, you can fight it. Get the denial in writing, find out exactly why they denied it, and submit a formal appeal with supporting documentation from your doctor. Most people don't realize this is an option.

2. Right to an accurate provider directory
If your insurance lists a doctor as in-network and they're not, your insurer is required to cover that visit at in-network rates. They're required to keep their directories current, hold them to it.

3. Right to emergency care coverage, even out-of-network
True emergencies must be covered at in-network rates, even if you go to an out-of-network ER. It's called the "prudent layperson standard." If a reasonable person would consider it an emergency, it counts as an emergency.

4. Right to a clear explanation of benefits
Your EOB shouldn't read like a foreign language. If it's confusing, you have the right to demand clarity. Call and make them explain every line until it makes sense.

5. Right to an external review
If your insurance company denies your internal appeal, you can request an independent external review. A third party looks at your case, and insurers lose these more often than you'd think.

Insurance companies make this complicated on purpose. We make it clear on purpose.

Questions about your rights or need help navigating your coverage? Call us. That’s exactly what we're here for.

Avoiding alcohol is the only foolproof solution, but there are good reasons why people swear by certain foods when they feel the effects of alcohol.

My brother says the hangover foods that people swear by don't really help. I have to disagree. When I've had too much to drink and am paying the price the next day, a few tacos always make me feel better. Is there any science behind either of our views on this?

To the single parents doing it all, managing the household, the budget, the schedules, everything, we see you.

The last thing you need is your health insurance making life harder. It should be one less thing to worry about, not another source of confusion.

If you're not sure your current plan is actually working for your family, here are a few things worth checking:

✓ Make sure all your kids are listed as dependents. Sounds obvious, but it gets missed during life changes, divorces, custody updates, and moves. Worth a double-check.

✓ Set up your P*P as a family practice if possible. One location for everyone's checkups = one less thing to coordinate.

✓ Check if your plan covers telehealth. Sick kid at 10 pm? Virtual urgent care can save you an ER bill and a late-night scramble.

✓ Know your out-of-pocket maximum. When you're managing a household on one income, knowing your worst-case number matters for planning.

✓ Save our number. When you're standing in the pharmacy parking lot, confused about why something isn't covered, send us a message. We'll help you sort out the confusion.

You shouldn't have to decode insurance paperwork on top of everything else you're carrying.

That's what we're here for. Call us when things get confusing, and we'll handle the insurance part so you can handle everything else.
