For me, even though I am the proud father of 5 intact sons, it took realizing that circumcision was correlated with brain dysfunction for me to be clearer with my patients about why it was not only not medically necessary, it could also be medically harmful. I know this remains a controversial issue. Jennifer Margulis and I explain the change in my thinking in our co-authored book The Vaccine-Friendly Plan. In the meantime, I'd be interested in your thoughts about this article by Beyond the Bris founder Rebecca Wald and Dr. Margulis.

People love to say babies come with clean slates.
Like if they are young enough then nothing touched them.
Nothing hurt them.
Nothing shaped them.

But that is not real.
And honestly it is dangerous.

Babies feel everything.
Stress. Chaos. Loss.
Their little bodies absorb what their minds cannot explain yet.
And adoption does not erase any of it.

We do not get to pretend their story starts the day they land in our arms.
It didn’t.
There was a whole world before us.
And whether we like it or not, it matters.

If we step into adoption, we step into the messy parts too.
The parts that make our chest tighten.
The parts we wish were not true.
The parts that will show up later in ways we never saw coming.

We honor their story.
All of it.
Not the shiny version that makes outsiders feel comfortable.
The real version.
The version with loss and rupture and things that should never have happened.

We hold space for the truth they carry.
We sit with their pain even when we cannot fix it.
We acknowledge what came before us instead of pretending it does not exist.

Because ignoring their beginning does not heal them.
It isolates them.
It teaches them to hide.

These kids deserve parents who can handle the whole story.
Not just the part that makes us feel chosen.

So no. Babies do not come with clean slates.
They come with history.
They come with wounds they never asked for.
They come with pieces we will spend years trying to understand.

And they deserve adults who do not turn away from that.
Adults who stay.
Adults who listen.
Adults who hold their truth with gentleness and respect.

Why Aren’t More Breech Babies Born at Home? by Karin Peacock
I have fewer than 100 births under my belt. As a student midwife, I am always asking questions and wondering about the “whys” of birth. The majority of my birth work has been done within the walls of a free-standing birth center attended by local CNMs and CPMs and only serving low-risk mothers. However, after recently witnessing my first frank breech delivery at a homebirth, I realized how relaxed, gentle and normal breech birth can be. I can’t stop asking the world, “Why aren’t more breech babies born at home?”
