THE VIETNAMESE CULTURE AND SCIENCE ASSOCIATION TO ORGANIZE
A Walk For Wellness (5K) Event on September 28, 2014 in Southwest Houston

Houston (September 28, 2014) – The Vietnamese Culture and Science Association (VCSA) is proud to announce the second annual VCSA Walk For Wellness 5K event on Sunday, September 28, 2014. This event will be held at LeRoy Crump Stadium at 12321 Alief Clodine Rd., Houston, TX 77082. Our goal is to raise awareness in the area of general wellness and to promote healthy living and active lifestyle. All funds raised through this event will enable VCSA to deliver health promotion and educational programs for youths and adults in the Houston communities. Registration for VCSA Walk for Wellness (5K) is now open. Please visit www.vcsawalk.com to begin your registration and learn how you can sponsor this cause. A friend of VCSA, Dr. Beverly Gor, is currently trying to recruit those Vietnamese American women who have had breast cancer to participate in a study by University of California Los Angeles. The purpose of the study is to understand the experience of breast cancer survivors and as a result, being able to have good recommendation for support network of families of cancer patients.

Breast cancer is the number one cancer for Asian American women and yet we know very little about the experience of these women. Dr. Beverly Gor needs to conduct a focus group of 5-8 Vietnamese breast cancer survivors with the following eligibility criteria:
35-70 years of age
1-5 years from diagnosis
Able to read/write/speak in English or Vietnamese

She would like to conduct this focus group before the end of May 2014. Participants will receive a $50 gift card for completion of the focus group and a survey will be mailed to them later. Upon completion of the survey, they will receive another $40 gift card. They will also be asked to identify one friend or family member who was a caregiver for them during their cancer experience. We will interview that person as well. And he/she will also receive a $50 gift card.
