As a responsible pet owner, it's important to know the benefits of spaying your female pet.

Spaying eliminates the risk of ovarian or uterine cancer and uterine infections. In addition, it decreases the risk of mammary cancer, especially if done before their first heat cycle.

Is your furry friend showing signs of fear, anxiety, or stress?

🐾 It’s important to understand the different ways in which dogs display their emotions. Besides the obvious signs like shaking or hiding, dogs may also use self-soothing motions, such as yawning or scratching, to alleviate nervous energy. They may also exhibit displacement behaviors like sniffing or running in circles.

Anxious or fearful dog traits include wide eyes, ears back, avoiding eye contact, trembling, and even a frantically wagging tail. Stay tuned for more tips on how to help your anxious dog.

❤️ We all want our feline friends to be healthy and happy, but heartworm disease can be a major obstacle for cats. Unfortunately, no approved treatment exists for heartworm disease in cats, and management focuses on stabilizing the cat and closely monitoring their condition with frequent chest X-rays.

Steroids and antibiotics may be used to help address inflammation and infection, but the average survival time for heartworm-infected cats is only one and a half years. Stay vigilant and protect your cat's health by taking preventative measures!

Providing year-round heartworm prevention is an important part of your pet’s health care plan. If you would like to discuss the various preventives, contact our team at Bayou City Vet by calling 713-343-9909, so we can determine what protocol would best fit you and your pet’s lifestyle.

Fertilizers can pose a risk to your furry friends, so pet owners need to be cautious!

While most fertilizers are safe when used properly, your pet may experience skin irritation or mild gastrointestinal symptoms if they come into contact with or ingest the product. If you think your pet has been exposed to fertilizer, use warm water to remove it from their skin and monitor for any symptoms.

Keep your pet away from fertilized areas to prevent any accidents!🙅
