💥Here are some of my favorite relaxation prompts to say to parents in labor!

1. "Relax your jaws". Jaw relaxation is crucial for a more comfortable birth since the jaw and the pelvic floor have a connection. A loose jaw means a relaxed pelvic floor - ask any pelvic floor PT or dentist!

2. "Go ragdoll" or "Go boneless". These are easy ways to remind the mind and body to simply let go of any tension and let loose!

3. "Soften your hands". Soft hands mean soft or relaxed shoulders too. Did you know that women can tighten their fists during labor? A simple way to ride the surges with ease is to allow to palms to remain soft and relaxed.

4. "Let your shoulders drop." Tension in the shoulders mean tension all over the arms and down to hands! Shoulders pointing down is a good sign that the birthing parent is loose and limp in labor. You can also gently press down the shoulder if you notice they are tense.

5. "Breathe in relaxation' Breathe out tension." This is one of the simplest yet powerful prompts for partners/birth companions. Partners: pay close attention to how your partner is breathing. Is it slow and rhythmic? Is your partner taking the breath all the way down to the abdominal muscles or is she doing chest breathing (a potential sign of distress)?

🌺Parents learn all these awesome prompts, the importance of partner's support, and so much more in our HypnoBirthing classes! Curious about signing up? Send me a DM! You can also check out our website: www.sakinakbirth.com.

Pregnancy isn’t just exhausting — it’s one of the most energy-intensive things a human body can do.

Researchers found that carrying a baby requires 2.2 times more energy than running a marathon every day for nine months. In fact, pregnancy pushes the human body to its absolute metabolic limit — more than most extreme athletes ever reach.

So the next time someone says “pregnancy is natural, not hard,” remember: it’s basically the ultimate endurance event.

🏵 New parenthood comes with many challenges. Affirmations help to mitigate some of the difficult moments. Daily affirmations can help reduce self-doubts, tap into a parent's intuition, and enhance bonding with the baby. Swipe to read some of my favorite affirmations!

💥"Words create thoughts and emotions; repeatedly entertaining the same thoughts conjures up feelings. Over time, these feelings become beliefs. We begin to act out those beliefs by our behavior. Our behavior shapes our experiences." - Marie Mongan

🌺Langaue is incredibly powerful and valuable. Your inner voice writes the script: thoughts spark feelings, beliefs, and behavior (mind-body connection). HypnoBirthing parents are taught to use gentle, empowering langauge because how we think of birth and talk about it shapes our reality.

The 2025 Cochrane review on immediate and early skin-to-skin contact after birth highlights that further randomized controlled trials comparing skin-to-skin contact with ‘usual care’ are no longer ethical.

The findings show there is now enough evidence to make immediate skin-to-skin contact after birth the global standard of care, and as WHO already recommends skin-to-skin the standard of care, the authors argue that randomizing the separation of mother and newborn may no longer be justifiable.

💥I love the BRAINS acronym. However, I think it is important for parents to not *only* rely on this tool. Yes it is important to ask about benefits and risks when making decisons about healthcare. When it comes to risks parents should be aware of the different types of risks (relative vs. absolute) - not all risks are the same! Understanding how big and small are the risks is also crucial before making an informed decision. Another thing to consider: what does the method or process look like? If a medical intervention is suggsested, it is absolutely essential to understand what is the process or method.

💥Other questions which can help make informed decisions:
💫Describe the suggestion/option. How is it done? How likely are we to find a solution?
💫Are there side effects to the treatment/intervention? Short term? Long term?
💫If the suggestion/intervention is not successful, what are the next options?

💥I also want to mention something about intuition. Intuition is important when making decisions, too. Sometimes, if the moment seems scary or uncertain, following one's inution might be more challenging. This is where getting some privacy (especially if other people are around) and doing Calm Breathing is incredibly helpful. Doing as many Calm Breaths needed to go back to our safe space in our nervous system (Parasympaethetic Sphere) helps us make decisions based on confidence and safety rather than fear.

💥Parents learn all the amazing tools for informed decision making and techniques to regulate their nervous system and foster the mind-body connection in HypnoBirthing classes! Interested in learning more or signing up? Check out our website: sakinahbirth.com. 🌺

🌟As a HypnoBirthing Educator, I would go further and say learning begins before birth thanks to decades of research from scientists and psychologists. I agree with the message here, though.💗
