I remember being a new therapist and feeling like I had to be perfect for my clients.

But I’m not.
Sometimes I’m a dumpster fire.
Sometimes I’m an angry elf.
Sometimes I have the dark & twisty’s.

Being a human is hard! I hope to show up as my most authentic self and sit across from you while normalizing that it’s okay to not have it all together. We are okay to embrace our humanness 🫶🏻

✨👇🏼 Here’s why I’ll challenge you *lovingly* as a therapist

When meeting new clients I will typically let them know that my job as a therapist is to be the side of a mirror that you can no longer avoid. What I mean is that therapy serves as an unavoidable reflection where the parts of you that have been dormant, ignored or neglected are going to be brought, without judgement, into the room.

As a therapist, when I challenge you I am working with you to identify familiar patterns that may no longer serve us. When I challenge you I am gently letting you know that I see you - The you who struggles to maintain eye contact when discussing disappointment; the you who describes themselves as loud but speaks with softness and moves with caution. When I challenge you I am holding the belief that things can be different even when you may not believe it yourself. When I challenge you I am extending a hand so that we may face and understand our inconsistencies with compassion.

I know that a challenge in therapy is uncomfy, painful and hard. I am going to validate the absolute s**t out of your emotions because that is important in the therapy room. As much as I validate and hold space for the emotions I am also going to be the side of a mirror that you can’t avoid … Because I want the most authentic version of you to take up space AND I believe in you.

🤭🤭 hehe just kiiiiidding I’ll tell ya … but first let’s break down these questions.

💭 Look at your year with curiosity and notice any disconnect. Did you feel a disconnect with yourself, your values, your morals? Maybe with your hobbies, job or family? If there was any sense of detachment that would be a great area to explore.

💭 Whether you went into this year with a resolution or a word take a second to reflect on how fitting it was. Did it resonate? Do we need to tweak it? You may see areas where a little more intention is needed or you may notice areas where you’re ready to expand.

💭 Envision yourself entering 2026. Notice the energy, the focus and the desires. What are the priorities? What are the goals? Who do you want to be?

The word I’m choosing for 2026 is ✨alignment✨

Reflecting on the first question really led me to this word. I’m hoping to bring in an intentional dedication to what feels good to me AND for me without worrying about what everyone else may be doing. I plan on giving myself permission to operate to the beat of my own drum by doing what aligns with my heart, values, needs and wants!

What’s your word for 2026?

Merry Christmas from my side of Magnolia, TX to wherever you are existing today 🥰🎅🏻🎄

The season has been busy, chaotic and full of all the love! Here’s a lil snippet of a therapist surviving the holidays with lots of coffee, good food, doggo love, the Grinch, Santa gifts to Be Counseling, and fun traditions with my people 🫶🏻

Thank you SO much Bold Journey Magazine for the feature 🥰

This feature includes my insights on self-care, embracing my true self, and guidance for new therapists entering the field. As a therapist, I'm not afraid to admit I'm still on my own journey. From navigating anxiety, learning how to give myself permission to slow down and move intentionally all while facing insecurities—vulnerability is the foundation of change.

My work (and life!) is about giving ourselves permission to simply ✨be! ✨ Read more by clicking the link!

We recently connected with Kelsey Schad and have shared our conversation below. Kelsey, we are so happy that our community is going to have a chance to learn more about you, your story and hopefully even take in some of the lessons you’ve learned along the way. Let’s start with

Take what you need while remembering that you are enough, you deserve to be free in your being, and that the table was a better place because you were at it 🫶🏻

💚 There is nothing shameful or unhealthy about participating in joyful gatherings around meals.

💚 Restriction isn’t a solution for chaos.

💚 My body represents the memories, experiences, and quality time spent with my favorite people.

💚 I will give myself permission to continue nourishing and fueling my body.

💚 My body has an innate understanding of what it needs and I choose to trust my body.

💚 To punish my body means there is something wrong with it. Let me remind myself that there is nothing wrong with my body.

💚 Meals are an opportunity for connection and comfort, which I deserve to take part in.

💚 The true spirit of the holiday will remain unaffected by an insignificant reading on a scale.

💚 A desire for balance and a desire for indulgence can both exist.

💚 Move in a way that shows your body kindness and compassion rather than hate and cruelty.

One whole year of Be Counseling 🎉🎉🎉

I started Be Counseling with a vision of creating a cozy, warm space for people to exist authentically and to feel safe in their expression without needing to change or ‘fix.’ I am SO deeply grateful for each client who has trusted me with their story and who has chosen Be Counseling as a place to fall apart, heal, learn, and be curious.

This year has been quite the journey! With starting a private practice I’ve had to learn how to bet on myself and navigate the difficult times with less judgement and more grace. This year has reminded me that it’s okay to be new at things while encouraging me to put myself out there. I’ve come face to face with the feelings of self-doubt, empowerment, fatigue, excitement, insecurity, and pride. I’m sure I’ll continue to encounter so much more because ✨life ✨

I can’t say enough for my family, boyfriend and friends who have been the hype squad when needed and the drawing board when stuck. Thank you for answering my panicked calls, reading through drafts and celebrating wins.

One year has led to a new network of colleagues and friends, earning a certification as a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP), incorporating Walk & Talk Therapy and becoming an LPC-S so that I can supervise prelicensed therapists and a ton of new plants (peep the celebratory newest edition!)

Here’s to year 2 - I can’t wait to see what you’ve got in store.

Happy to help 🤗🤗🤗

Nothing and I mean NOTHING is inappropriate to discuss in therapy! I want to hear it all … the messy, the raw, the joy, the ugly, the vulnerable. I’m lucky to sit alongside you with your deepest most intimate thoughts and feelings.
