Uber, Lyft, and Blacklane Drivers Protest Unfair Treatment at Houston’s IAH Airport
Houston, TX –
4/14/25
– For the first time; Uber, Lyft, and Blacklane drivers in Houston are organizing a protest at the TNC lot at George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH). The demonstration aims to shed light on unfair treatment, financial hardships, and exploitative policies imposed by Uber and Lyft.
Uber, Lyft, and Blacklane drivers, who provide luxury rides through rideshare platforms, have faced increasing challenges, including excessive commissions, unfair deactivations, and a lack of fare transparency. Despite bearing 100% of operational costs—including commercial insurance, fuel, maintenance, and city fees—drivers receive only a fraction of the fares paid by customers.
"The current system is unsustainable," said [MR JOHN ], a longtime Uber, Lyft, and Blacklane drivers. "We are professionals providing premium service, yet the companies keep squeezing our earnings while removing drivers without cause. We refuse to be pushed out of our own industry without a fight."
The protest seeks the following reforms:
• Fair and Sustainable Compensation – A livable wage that reflects rising costs.
• Commission Caps – Reducing Uber and Lyft's cut from up to 60% down to 20%.
• Fare Transparency – Full visibility into what customers pay versus what drivers earn.
• Due Process for Deactivations – A fair appeals system for wrongful removals.
• City Oversight – A call for Houston officials to investigate Uber and Lyft’s business practices.
Protesters will gather peacefully, with clear demands for change. Uber, Lyft, and Blacklane drivers ask lawmakers, city officials, and the public to support their efforts in securing fair treatment for professional chauffeurs providing vital transportation services in Houston Texas.
