At Developmental Therapy Center, therapy is never just about one child. It is about the whole family.

These photos capture something we see every day: three little girls at one table. One is here for pediatric occupational therapy. Two are sisters who simply want to be close, to help, to cheer her on, and to learn alongside her. Our therapist, Cagney Sargent Thompson, Doctor of Occupational Therapy, did not ask them to step aside. She welcomed them.

That is what family-centered care looks like.

Growth happens in real life, not in isolation. Skills are practiced at home, in the classroom, and in the small moments that matter most. Siblings are often the first friends, the first teachers, and the first to celebrate every hard-earned step forward.

We are honored to walk beside families through work that is not always easy but is always worth it.

Three sisters. One table. One team. Countless little victories.

When a child steps into the pool for aquatic therapy, something shifts. Movements that are difficult on land often feel more manageable in the water. The warmth helps muscles relax. The buoyancy provides support. Suddenly, a child is able to move with more freedom and confidence.

Through our partnership with the Huntington YMCA, Developmental Therapy Center offers pediatric aquatic therapy sessions designed to meet each child where they are. In the water, children work on strength, balance, endurance, and breathing while experiencing less pain and pressure on their bodies. The pool becomes a place where therapy can feel more achievable and more motivating for some patients.

These photos feature Sara Kidder, Doctor of Physical Therapy, and Aaron Banks, Doctor of Physical Therapy student at Marshall University, working alongside patients during recent aquatic therapy sessions. What you see is thoughtful, hands-on care focused on helping children build skills that carry over beyond the pool.

Aquatic therapy can support individuals with diagnoses such as cerebral palsy, balance disorders, neuromuscular conditions, spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injuries, scoliosis, and chronic pain.

If you would like to learn more about aquatic therapy at DTC or explore whether it could be a good fit for a child in your life, contact Developmental Therapy Center at 304-523-1164 or info@dtchuntington.org.
