Our Prenatal Yoga Class is Shaping Up to Be a Beautiful Group of Expecting Mamas! This week we have been diving deeper into understanding and connecting with the pelvic floor.
The pelvic floor is a group of muscle ligaments and connective tissues that form a supportive structure at the base of the pelvis. It is also called the pelvic diaphragm because it is a dome shaped muscular sheet that separates the pelvic cavity from the perennial region below.
The pelvic floor is responsible for several key functions in the body.
❤️Providing stability to the pelvis and lower back.
❤️Maintaining the position of the pelvic organs of the bladder, uterus, and re**um.
❤️Controlling urinary and bowel functions.
❤️They also play a significant role in sexual arousal, function and pleasure during in*******se.
Pelvic floor health is important for pregnancy and childbirth because a strong and flexible pelvic floor supports the growing baby, aids in optimal fetal positioning and the descent and delivery of the baby during labor. It reduces the risk of tearing or trauma during birth and improves postpartum recovery. It also helps prevent incontinence, sexual dysfunction and pelvic organ prolapse.
Even if you aren't carrying a baby, Pelvic Floor Health creates the foundation for a strong healthy and mobile body.
