~Stillness~
In our culture we are constantly busy. We are always scrolling, talking, working, achieving and so on. Keeping ourselves on the go and moving feels productive and safe. The constant act of doing keeps us from feeling grief, loneliness, anxiety, boredom .. all the stuff that surfaces the second things get quiet. When some people think of stillness they think of being lazy or unproductive but sometimes stillness and rest are the most productive things you can give yourself. Stillness is so important because it lowers our cortisol and allows our brain to shift into restorative states. Just because something feels uncomfortable doesn’t mean it’s bad for you.
Our brain labels whatever we repeat as “safe” even if it’s overthinking, negative self talk, craving sugar etc. Familiar doesn’t always mean healthy.
And just because something feels good in the moment doesn’t mean it’s good for you long term, the same way uncertainty doesn’t automatically mean something is wrong. We need stillness. It’s always so beautiful to watch my clients shift from fidgeting and resistance to completely surrendering to the moment. Hearing the self reflections clients have and how surprised they are to be able to get as relaxed as they do makes me so happy and proud. Stillness is a must for our nervous system. 🫶♥️✨🪄
