🎄 ‘‘Twas the night before Christmas 🎄
‘‘Twas the night before Christmas
At the ISP Bremen Post
All was quiet across
The Hoosier State most.
The Chargers, Durangos, and Mustangs sat ready
Along highways and lanes,
From cornfields to cities,
Through snow, sleet, and rain.
Campaign hats were hung
With care by the door,
For morning patrol
Would soon call once more.
The radios whispered,
Then settled down tight,
As troopers kept watch
Through the cold winter night.
When out in the roadway
There shimmered a glow,
Red, blue, and white lights
Reflected on snow.
Away to their cars
The troopers all flew,
Thinking “disabled motorist?”
Or something brand new.
The moon on US31,
So icy and bright,
Shine proud on the badges
That stand for what’s right.
When what should appear
On the shoulder out there,
But a sleigh with a light bar
And eight mighty reindeer.
With a steady old driver,
So calm and so quick,
They knew in a moment-
It had to be Saint Nick.
More swift than a pursuit
His reindeer they came,
And he called them with pride
As he called them by name:
“Now Service! Now Honor!
Now Courage and Care!
On Character! On Commitment!
On Fairness! On Fair!
He parked by the Post,
So quiet and neat,
With a sack full of thanks
For the troopers on beat.
He spoke of long nights
On Indiana roads,
Of crashes and closures
And heavy workloads.
Of helping stranded drivers
On cold winter eves,
And standing for safety
For all Hoosiers’ needs.
He filled up the stockings
With patches and cheer,
And left words of thanks
For another hard year.
Then tipping his hat
With a nod full of pride,
He climbed to his sleigh
And rose to the sky.
But they heard him exclaim,
As he drove out of sight,
“Stay safe, Indiana State Troopers-
And Merry Christmas to all tonight!”
