You know you’re autistic and married when…
✨You have guilt from the times you flipped out on your partner
✨You have communicated your sensory needs like emergency protocol
✨Your intimacy might drastically decline in burnout or when overstimulated
✨You have a hard time articulating exactly what you mean
✨Your partner knows the look that indicates you are over th edge
✨Your rejection sensitivity creates family drama from time to time

Autism is neurodevelopmental and it exists on a spectrum.
Adults with autism may present a variety of symptoms, everyone is unique. The best way to know is to ask.
Some people do not fit the outward ‘characteristics’ associated with autism. There isn’t one look. Body language can be conflicting.
If someone is autistic, there is a higher chance they might also have ADHD, anxiety, depression, learning differences, and other chronic health conditions.
Listen when someone tells you they are autistic and ask what that means for them.
If they don’t know themselves, open the conversation in privacy and with honesty. Don’t sugar coat it.
People on the spectrum often have social difficulties, sensory sensitivities, communication challenges, and more complex needs for emotional regulation.
