🙌🏻 for my client!

When this sweet mama started working with me, she was feeling discouraged from "failing" Weight Watchers again.

After her daughter was born, she noticed that there were a lot of changes all at once: her body, her appetite, her mental health. And food was a comfort for all of it.

Weight Watchers taught that food was either "good" or "bad". She was making "healthy versions" of junk food and trying to avoid her favorite foods by keeping them out of her house. She packed her lunches with only healthy foods.

She had heard about intuitive eating but the unconditional permission concept scared her because she was already binge eating.

Over the past few months, we've been working to change her mindset. Instead of restricting, we are focusing on full permission, less shame, and regular nourishment. We have talked through the scary parts of intuitive eating and weight changes.

I asked a mom friend this question and her answer blew me away:

"Just be able to eat and go through life free of other people's opinions. Whether that comes to the way they walk, or the size they are, or what they're deciding to do with their spare time, or who they love... whatever it is... I want them to feel the confidence to do it because it makes them happy and try not to worry about what other people think. This is the first time I'm learning this lesson too. I'm learning that the people that are made for you are going to love you and accept you and connect with you based on those things. And then the people that don't...they're just not your people. Not everyone is going to be your people."

When you need help, what gets in your way?

⌚TIME - Sometimes when we need help the most, it is the hardest to make time to get it. From the moment your eyes pop open (after being whacked in the face by your toddler) to the time you lay your pretty head on the pillow at night, something demands your attention. Work, the laundry, the dog, the dishes, snack time, lunch, exercise, staying hydrated, church, the PTA, your friends, your kids, your parents, your partner. And now you’re supposed to make time for help? WHEN?

😱FEAR - What if you sacrifice your time and your money and then… it doesn’t work? What if you try really hard and you are still in the same place you are right now?

🌿LACK OF SUPPORT - Let’s say you’re all in and you have overcome your fears about investing and then your partner doesn’t get it and can’t or won’t get on board? What if you have to spend an entire season of your life convincing all the people around you to do it your way?

Because that’s the problem with restrictive diets, right? You’re promised that if you eliminate more, you’ll feel better, more empowered, lighter, healthier.

It’s because no amount of rules will make you lose weight for good. 🤯

Here’s some staggering information for you:
1️⃣95% of diets fail.
2️⃣Most people who lose weight gain most of it back within two years, and most gain back all the weight within five years.
3️⃣35% of dieters will progress into disordered eating.
4️⃣Most weight studies do not measure for harm.

5️⃣“It is now well established that the more people engage in dieting, the more they gain weight in the long term.”

I believe in the power of nutrition - I’m a registered dietitian, after all! But I don’t believe in success being measured in pounds lost. When you work with me, success looks like:
🍜Eating the same dinner as everyone else in your family.
🤸‍♀️Being present while your kids play instead of logging food into your tracking app.
🍩Eating a food you really wanted to eat and enjoying every bite without feeling guilty.
🏃🏾Going for a walk on your lunch break to enjoy the fresh air, not to burn calories.

When the bouquets die, no one is making you breakfast, and they don't notice all the things you do for them, remember:

👏👏👏 FOR MY CLIENT!

After only two calls with me, my client shared that she was invited to a party. This party was “very much about the food”. But because of the work we did in our first two calls together she was able to go to that party and, in her words:

“Not even worry about it. When I was done I was done. I didn’t go back for more just because it was there. I felt like, ‘I’m going to eat what I want to eat’. I didn’t even think about it more than that.

I FELT SO NORMAL.” (my emphasis added)

HOW TO BE STRESS FREE:

Once you name what you need and the motivation behind it, all the other decisions are much, much easier to make because you know WHY. I don’t know *your* why. My why is probably different than yours.

But once you know, then that’s when the magic happens, mama.

Today is my birthday! Here are some things I learned in the past year:

🎥The videos of my kids doing everyday things are the most precious videos.

🕯️Aldi has the best soy blend candles (Amalfi Coast with sea salt and rainlily is *chef’s kiss*).

🧼Investing in good face wash and CC cream makes me feel like a million bucks.

🧘‍♀️I don’t have to be Montessori Mom every day my kids are home.

☕Caribou’s Daybreak coffee with a splash of half and half is what dreams are made of.

👯The authentic friendships where we can be vulnerable and honest are crucial to my happiness.

🤩Speaking up about my boundaries is scary but always worth it.

🖐️Aiming for perfectionism no longer serves me.

💞Coaching moms through Nourishing Babes is what I was put on this earth to do.

Thank you all for letting me serve you this year. It has been the best gift.
