Why do we train fire departments? ๐Ÿš’

Fire crews are often first on scene, while ambulances may still be 10-15 minutes out. Those first moments matter.

Last week with Cedar Rapids Fire Department, crews trained on a scenario where a patient with chest pain went into cardiac arrest while the ambulance was still en route.

Teams practiced coordinated CPR, defibrillation, and proper ACLS medication administration to ensure patients receive high-quality care before EMS arrival.

Our second training in partnership with the Iowa Perinatal Quality Care Collaborative is in the books!

On Tuesday night, we visited North Benton Ambulance, working with nine individuals on realistic simulation scenarios including precipitous delivery, postpartum hemorrhage, and eclamptic seizure.

Thank you to The Wellmark Foundation for supporting this training and helping ensure Iowa providers are prepared for perinatal emergencies in their communities.

December 16, 2021 was a day that truly felt like Christmas morning for us. ๐ŸŽ๐Ÿšš

Four years ago, our high-fidelity simulators arrived at the University of Iowa College of Nursing, marking the start of something incredible. Since then, theyโ€™ve helped us deliver realistic, hands-on training to thousands of healthcare providers across Iowa.

As we wrap up the year, follow along as we share statistics and statewide impact these simulators have made possible.

SIM-IA spent the day at the STEAM Institute introducing 120 middle school students to emergency care preparedness.

Our educators showcased the simulation equipment used in trainings and guided students through hands-on CPR and AED scenarios. With our technology providing real-time feedback, students could see exactly how their hand placement, compression depth and rate performed - demonstrating how STEAM skills support effective practice!
