What is the difference between traditional progressive lenses and digital designs?

Traditional progressive lenses are produced using “pre-molded” templates and the same design is used for every wearer. Digital progressives are customized for each wearer's prescription. This customization eliminates more distortion and will help you transition to and from far and near vision much more easily.

For the month of October all STD (traditional) Progressive Lens purchases (good, better lenses) will be upgraded to our BEST Progressive digital lens.

BRING US YOUR PRESCRIPTION and ask about our other October offers and upgrades.

Your purchase allows us to keep helping students and seniors in our community

Do antireflective coatings really work?

Short answer, antireflective coating uses several layers of thin film to cancel out reflective light in different wavelengths

More technical, or long answer is more complicated, but by applying the principal of interference the basic concept is that each layer in the stack combines with previous layers to cancel out a wide range of light waves by adding opposite, or destructive waves that are out of phase causing the two reflections to cancel out.

Is an antireflective coating right for you?

* These days we live in a world where artificial light is everywhere, from ambient, traffic, digital etc…so an antireflective coating is beneficial for all of us

* If you spend hours in front of a computer then a BlueLight filter AR coating is beneficial for you. It’ll help alleviate any eye strain from long term close up work, eye fatigue, even headaches.

* If you spend hours on the road or do night driving it will absorb reflective light from street signs, oncoming traffic and digital dashboards.

Here at the Eyeglass Store of OC we offer 3 types of antireflective coating.

Each coating extends the life of your lenses by adding an extra layer of protection against scratches.

* GOOD $50
Standard AR - good for driving, indoor, ambient lighting and cosmetic since it absorbs any reflections on your lenses

* BETTER $85
BlueFilter AR - which does all of the above plus filters out damaging blue light from electronics such as computers, phones, tablets, TV’s or any digital screen

* BEST $145
Premium AR - this one does all the above, but is also easy to clean and stays crisp due to its Hydrophobic and Oleophobic properties which repel dust, oil and water

For now and the month of October we’re offering all patients with an outside Rx a free upgrade to the our BEST antireflective coating with purchase of our STANDARD AR

Ready for the Holliday weekend? Ready for Monday…perhaps Sunday night fireworks displays?

How to Respond to an Eye Injury from Fireworks – and What Not to Do.

Eye injuries are among the most common form of firework injuries and can include burns, bruises, cuts, and foreign bodies in the eye. Most firework injuries occur when people use them at home without proper safety precautions.

Tips for at-home firework safety:

Always wear safety glasses.

A responsible adult should supervise all firework
activities, and fireworks should never be given to children.

Stand at least 20 feet from where the firework is ignited.

Always read the instructions on the packages before using fireworks.

Always have a water bucket or water hose nearby.

I recommend leaving fireworks to the professionals, but if we’re going to be around fireworks, our experts at Eyeglass Store of OC will be ready to help them should an injury occur.

What should you do if an injury occurs?

The best response to a firework injury is to seek medical attention immediately.

The most common misconception people have is that the injury is not that serious and can wait for treatment. Often people will rinse their eye out with water or rub their eye, but both of these can cause further damage.

If a foreign body gets in your eye, don’t try to take it out; leave that to the professionals.

Call 911 immediately

Before the ambulance arrives, cover the eye with the bottom portion of a disposable foam or plastic cup, using tape to hold it in place. This protects the injured eye from further damage and accidental rubbing.

The sooner you seek treatment, the better the chance of preventing permanent eye damage.

Things NOT to do after an eye injury:

Do not rub, rinse, or apply pressure to the eye.

Do not try to remove any foreign bodies stuck in the eye.

Do not take blood-thinning pain medicines, such as aspirin or ibuprofen.

Do not stop to buy medicine.

Do not wait to get professional help.

Wearing a pair of suitable glasses can not only correct your eyesight, but also increase your fashion and beauty.

So, if you have a big head, which eyeglass frames are suitable?

*********

Rectangular frames:

Rectangular frames add angle and can slim down the appearance of a larger head. So, if you have a big head, try a rectangular design.

Oversized frames:

If you have a big head, the oversized frames would be a good choice. Oversized glasses will balance out larger features.

Wayfarer frames:

If your style is retro or geek chic, you will find a perfect fit in trapezoidal wayfarer. The thick angular frames offset rounder cheeks and draw attention down from the forehead. So, if you have a large head, try this style.

Another thing to consider when choosing eyeglasses for large heads….temple length

Consider glasses with long enough temple length, which is the length between the hinge of your frames and where they bend around the ear.

This measurement is critical for overall comfort, especially on your temples and near your ears.

CAN WE REUSE LENSES IN NEW FRAMES????

We’ve all been there: dropping and breaking frames while the lenses stay intact.

This may be inconvenient since you may be without vision correction until you can get your eyewear repaired. And in some situations, you might have to get creative with some heavy-duty tape until you can make it over to our office @

Once you arrive, you might be wondering, ‘Can you reuse lenses in new frames?’ After all, if your lenses are still in good condition, it may seem natural to use them again.

Can you reuse lenses in new frames?

In general, we recommend getting a new pair of glasses instead of reusing old lenses to ensure you have the best-fitting eyewear, but there are times when it’s okay to utilize your current lenses. Whether you can reuse lenses in new frames depends on a few things, such as:

If the new frames are the same model and style as the old frames

If you have any prescription limitations

If your lenses have been damaged at all

In some cases, lenses can be cut to fit another style of frames, but the frames will need to be a smaller size than that of the broken frames. Also, if you’re in a hurry, and your existing frames aren’t available that day, we try to find another set of frames that would work for your existing lenses.

Visionary, Giving hope through Vision

You might not always need to replace your frames if the damage isn’t severe.

Sometimes, you may just need an adjustment or screw replacement, and Eyeglass Store of OC offers both of those services for free (even if you’re not a current customer).

If you end up needing a replacement, we can take care of that for you.

So can you put old lenses in new frames?

You can put old lenses in new frames in most cases, as long as the new frames are the same ones you used to have. We would first have to make sure your prescription doesn’t restrict the type of eyewear you use so that you don’t have issues down the line. We’ll also check to see if your lenses aren’t chipped or scratched before swapping them out.

Usually, not a high priority exam that is often overlooked. But, here are 8 reasons why you should schedule your eye exam today:

1. Eyesight can change over time and an eye exam can catch these changes early on.

2. An eye exam will let you know if your require a prescription change or if there is a health issue affecting your sight.

3. Good vision is essential for learning and can negatively impact a child’s or adults learning, performance in sports, at work and even social skills.

4. An eye exam will test your visual acuity, discover issues such as nearsightedness (myopia), farsightedness, astigmatism, color blindness, poor hand-eye coordination or visual perception and difficulties with the eyes’ ability to work together for tracking, teaming, and focusing.

5. Eye exams can detect glaucoma and will usually find it in early stages when there is still time to act before it worsens.

6. An eye exam is a good place to check for any problems that might lead to blindness like macular degeneration, retinal issues or cataracts.

7. An eye exam can help you understand why you have headaches, eye strain, fatigue, dryness, discomfort, or any visual issues and help you resolve them for a better life.

8. An eye exam can alert you of potential problems with certain medications that cause vision problems and help prevent further damage.

It can be easy to forget your eye exam but we urge you to make your vision a priority and schedule yours today.

Many of our vendors are running on 40% manpower causing unexpected and unwanted delays.

It is most important that we get things done right the first time in order to avoid unnecessary wait times and making technicians rush only adds to human errors.

What are cataracts?

A cataract is a cloudy area in the lens of your eye.

Cataracts are very common as you get older. In fact, more than half of all Americans age 80 or older either have cataracts or have had surgery to get rid of cataracts.

What causes a cataract?

Most cataracts are caused by normal changes in your eyes as you get older.

When you’re young, the lens in your eye is clear. Around age 40, the proteins in the lens of your eye start to break down and clump together. This clump makes a cloudy area on your lens — or a cataract.

How can I prevent cataracts?

You can take steps to protect your eyes and delay cataracts.

Wear sunglasses and a hat with a brim to block the sun.
Quit smoking, eat healthy, eat plenty of fruits and vegetables — especially dark, leafy greens like spinach, kale, and collard greens.

If you’re age 60 or older, get a dilated eye exam at least once every 2 years.

What is better progressive or bifocal?

Generally speaking, bifocals only correct vision for two distinct fields of vision, while progressive lenses offer clear vision at all distances.

Progressive lenses allow you to see at all distances with one pair of glasses. They start with your distance prescription (if you have one) at the top of the lens and increase as you move toward the bottom of the lens. You simply move your head position to allow you to focus through different areas of the lens.

“My Son has never worn glasses before….”

When I hear those words and I get this type of a prescription I am just baffled.

I wear a -1.50 and I can’t drive without my glasses and if you know me you can attest that without my glasses I can’t see you from across the street 😁

“Hey Vic, I said hello to you the other day and you ignored me, but you looked angry…” I was trying to focus to see who the heck was waving at me🤣🤦🏻‍♂️

To convey with you how your support impacts the kids we donate eyeglasses to, sit down.

A 10 year old comes in, never wore glasses and goes in to get his eye exam, comes out with a pretty high Rx, we chose a frame, polycarbonate lenses for safety, durability, thickness etc…

Comes back 2 weeks later and his jaw drops as he puts his glasses on…with his mouth wide open, in awe…no, SHOCK!!!! He stares at everything in the room and asks his mom if she can read what he’s NOW able to read, SEE what HE is now able to SEE…the posters, door signage, down the hall…

I tell him let me show you something neat, we walk outside to show him the trees and how the leaves appear in 3D one overlapping the other with perfect depth. I wasn’t expecting the reaction we got once the door swung open.

….he placed his hand to his mouth and began crying 😢, “Mom…Mom…can you see that??!!!”

If I get this reaction once a year (happens more than you think) from a kid, from anyone, it makes it all worthwhile. With over 1000+ glasses donated annually we really appreciate your support. None of this is possible without our village. Thank you

Based on a study in recent years the average cost of a name brand pair of Sunglasses in the US is $261 US$’s.

In addition to the frame single vision lenses are an average of $153 + tints

For some people, brand name sunglasses can be too expensive, not to mention the cost of prescription lenses if needed.

The average cost of a great pair of Sunglasses here Eyeglass Store of OC is about 40%-50% off of regular retail and that includes tinted STD Index prescription lenses as well.
