Real down dog. Our baby has hot spots that spread rapidly. Her booties are because she uses her hind legs to scratch when she can’t lick or chew at the spots.
She’s almost all better, and so am I - I had an appointment with my rheumatologist yesterday and have a preliminary diagnosis of EDS - genetic and blood tests still to be had but those don’t indicate this type of EDS, they’ll just rule out other things. My flare up (like Nala’s hot spots) is calming down and so am I with the knowledge that it’s not all in my head. Now I can continue my teaching yoga journey, but it will look a bit different: shorter classes, even more gentle than “gentle”. ReEmerging once again 🦋💗

Just me and a few of my besties 🐾🦮🐶

I’ve been very slack at social media these days and it’s done me a lot of good! Without the constant trillions of things coming at me, my mind is clearer, my yoga practice is more consistent - so my body is happier, and I’m able to more easily regulate my emotions.

So, I’ve decided to make Tuesday morning my social media time and for the rest of the week I just stay off my phone.

This is Ahimsa (non-harming) in practice, because for me, social media is anxiety provoking. There are things that I enjoy - like engaging with authentic, beautiful people, inspiration, seeing posts of my friends and family enjoying themselves - but the negative impact currently outweighs the positive for me.

My besties love it when I’m not constantly looking at my screen ❤️

Thanks to Alison for this. I have felt this and have dealt this. At the end of the day, we're all just doing our best. Go easy on yourselves and each other. Happy Easter 💝

It’s easy to feel uncared for when people aren’t able to communicate and connect with you in the way you need. And it’s so hard not to internalize that silence as a reflection on your worth. But the truth is that the way other people operate is not about you. Most people are so caught up in their own responsibilities, struggles, and anxiety that the thought of asking someone else how they’re doing doesn’t even cross their mind. They aren’t inherently bad or uncaring — they’re just busy and self-focused... And that’s okay. It’s not evidence of some fundamental failing on your part. It doesn’t make you unlovable or invisible. It just means that those people aren’t very good at looking beyond their own world. But the fact that you are — that despite the darkness you feel, you have the ability to share your love and light with others — is a strength. Your work isn’t to change who you are; it’s to find people who are able to give you the connection you need. Because despite what you feel, you are not too much. You are not too sensitive or too needy. You are thoughtful and empathetic. You are compassionate and kind. And with or without anyone’s acknowledgment or affection, you are enough. 🦋💕✨

Yoga has SO many benefits and is great for ALL ages and ALL bodies - even bodies that don’t bend very easily (or at all - my daughter’s spine is completely fused and she practices yoga).

In fact, if all you can do is breathe, you can still do yoga!

I’ve been quite unwell for the past couple of months, dealing with a terrible bout of diverticulitis and now treating skin cancer. But guess what? I still practice yoga every day in one form or another. It helps me stay centered and present, which helps my mind and my body heal faster! I’m over the diverticulitis and nearly finished with my topical chemotherapy treatment, thank goodness! New content coming soon 🥳

Yoga Benefits

There are so many benefits to physical yoga practice (Asana), (and remember that Yoga is so much more than moving your body) but here are a quick 3:

1. Slow movements and deep breathing increase blood flow and warm up muscles, while holding a pose can build strength.
2. Yoga is as good as basic stretching for easing pain and improving mobility in people with lower back pain.
3. Gentle yoga has been shown to ease some of the discomfort of tender, swollen joints for people with arthritis.

I’ve been unable to do much of anything for the past month due to a bout of diverticulitis. It was my first run-in with this issue and was most certainly my fault. I got to a point in my wellness where I felt so good inside and out that I became over-confident and careless. I thought I could eat anything I wanted because I felt strong and healed. Well, let me just say that just because you feel great, empowered and have moments of union with all of existence, does not mean you should start BASE jumping without a parachute. I have to accept that my internal injuries are part of my body, as it is now. And just like I protect my previously injured joints from further injury in Asana practice, I will now protect my delicate internal organs from further injury by practicing Ahimsa (non-harming).
Lesson (humbly) learned ✅
But I know I’m finally better because I can do this! 🥳

Right now there are Tibetan Buddhist monks in a temple in the Himalayas endlessly reciting mantras for the cessation of your suffering and for the flourishing of your happiness.

Someone you haven't met yet is already dreaming of adoring you.

Someone is writing a book that you will read in the next two years that will change how you look at life.

Nuns in the Alps are in endless vigil, praying for the Holy Spirit to alight the hearts of all of God's children.

A farmer is looking at his organic crops and whispering, "nourish them."

Someone wants to kiss you, to hold you, to make tea for you.

Someone is willing to lend you money, wants to know what your favorite food is, and treat you to a movie.

Someone in your orbit has something immensely valuable to give you — for free.

Something is being invented this year that will change how your generation lives, communicates, heals and passes on.

The next great song is being rehearsed.

Thousands of people are in yoga classes right now intentionally sending light out from their heart chakras and wrapping it around the earth.

Millions of children are assuming that everything is amazing and will always be that way.

Someone is in profound pain, and a few months from now, they'll be thriving like never before. From where they are, they just can't see it.

Someone who is craving to be partnered, to be acknowledged, to arrive, will get precisely what they want — and even more. And because that gift will be so fantastical in its reach and sweetness, it will quite magically alter their memory of angsty longing and render it all "So worth the wait."

Someone has recently cracked open their joyous, genuine nature because they did the hard work of hauling years of oppression off of their psyche — this luminosity is pervasive in the ether, and is accessible to you.

Someone just this second wished for world peace, in earnest.

Some civil servant is making sure that you get your mail, and your garbage is picked up, that the trains are running on time, and that you are generally safe.

Someone is dedicating their days to protecting your civil liberties and clean drinking water.

Someone is regaining their sanity.
Someone is coming back from the dead.
Someone is genuinely forgiving the seemingly unforgivable.
Someone is curing the incurable.

You. Me. Some. One. Now.
