Recovering from a stroke at home can feel overwhelming for both survivors and family caregivers.
Here are a few tips / things to be mindful of during this difficult time:
- Safety first: remove clutter, secure rugs, add grab bars, improve lighting
- Follow medical guidance: stay consistent with medications, therapy exercises, and follow-up appointments
- Support mobility + independence: encourage slow, steady movement and celebrate small wins
- Protect brain + body health: prioritize hydration, balanced meals, sleep, and gentle activity (when approved)
- Watch for changes: sudden weakness, speech changes, severe headache, or confusion = call 911
- Emotional recovery matters too: frustration, anxiety, or depression are common—validation helps
- Caregivers need care: take breaks, ask for help, and don’t navigate alone
Every recovery journey looks different, it is important to follow care advice provided by the doctor.
