The dangers of fat accumulation
Excessive fat accumulation, especially in the abdominal and visceral areas, can cause numerous health problems and increase the risk of various chronic diseases. Here are some common conditions associated with fat accumulation:
Cardiovascular diseases
Hypertension: Fat accumulation, especially in the abdominal area, increases pressure on the heart and causes an increase in blood pressure. Chronic hypertension increases the risk of heart disease and stroke.
Coronary heart disease: Excess fat, especially visceral fat, can lead to atherosclerosis (thickening and narrowing of the blood vessels), which can cause heart problems and other cardiovascular diseases.
Diabetes
Type 2 diabetes: Fat accumulation in the abdominal area leads to insulin resistance, where cells no longer respond properly to insulin. This is one of the main causes of type 2 diabetes. Obesity is one of the biggest risk factors.
Increased cholesterol
Fat accumulation, especially an increase in “bad” cholesterol (LDL), raises blood cholesterol levels and increases the risk of atherosclerosis.
Fatty liver disease
Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD): excess visceral fat can accumulate in the liver, causing fatty liver disease. This can lead to inflammation, liver cirrhosis, or even liver failure.
Sleep apnea
Fat accumulation can narrow the airways and increase the risk of obstructive sleep apnea. This condition is characterized by repeated interruptions in breathing during sleep and can cause daytime fatigue, memory problems, and heart disorders.
Collagen loss and skin aging
Sagging skin and wrinkles: excess fat can alter the shape of the body and the structure of the skin, causing loss of elasticity, relaxation, and wrinkle formation.
Joint disorders
Arthritis: Obesity increases pressure on the knees, hips, and back, causing joint wear and arthritis.
Some types of cancer
Breast, bowel, and uterine cancer: Obesity is associated with an increased risk of certain types of cancer. Fat accumulation influences hormone levels and may promote tumor growth.
Gallstones
Excess cholesterol and fat in the gallbladder can lead to the formation of gallstones. Obesity is a major risk factor.
Mental health problems
Depression and anxiety: Obesity can negatively affect body image and lead to feelings of depression, anxiety disorders, and other emotional problems.
Hormonal imbalances
Excess body fat, especially in the abdominal area, can cause hormonal imbalances, such as increased levels of cortisol (stress hormone) and estrogen, which can disrupt metabolism, the immune system, and reproductive functions.
