A friend recently noted that we are in an 80-year cycle and that we’re in the crisis portion of that cycle (Google that to read Howe’s and Strauss’s work). I paused to reflect on that: 80 years ago was World War II. I didn’t like the feeling.

This time of year, I am expecting to get out to mow my lawn and set up my garden, but the rain is acting like it thinks it’s April. Maybe May showers bring June green beans? That would work for me.

The heat of August seems to bring with it a whole lot of stuff going on. We are both trying to get some more swims in while getting ready for back to school. Our markets are loaded with fresh produce but we feel too busy to cook. And our own gardens and lawns are blooming.

It's also natural for predators to perk right up and take advantage of a target which is distracted....
