A friend recently noted that we are in an 80-year cycle and that we’re in the crisis portion of that cycle (Google that to read Howe’s and Strauss’s work). I paused to reflect on that: 80 years ago was World War II. I didn’t like the feeling.

This time of year, I am expecting to get out to mow my lawn and set up my garden, but the rain is acting like it thinks it’s April. Maybe May showers bring June green beans? That would work for me.

This photo that I took of the solar eclipse last year reminds me that we’re not done with winter, even though it’s after dinner before I turn on the porch light. Winter is a time to sleep and to dream. It’s also a time to meditate — have you been trying it out?

The heat of August seems to bring with it a whole lot of stuff going on. We are both trying to get some more swims in while getting ready for back to school. Our markets are loaded with fresh produce but we feel too busy to cook. And our own gardens and lawns are blooming.

When fall comes, I love picking apples, canning vegetables and making jelly, and planning my Christmas dinner. I love the seasons: I can be active outside all summer, gather and process in the fall, knit while watching the snow in the winter, and dance to the glory of spring.
