Zoey was behaving calmly so I let her in the she shed while I was feeding the (they were outside somewhere). I’m glad she can’t get in on her own because she can totally reach the shelves…🤪🫩🙄

cat cam Saturday Night Fever… 🕺🪩 …this is what I do for fun now apparently…

Week Five:
The past week, the cats have been free to roam and leave the she shed as much as they want. My jerry-rigged door solution was no good, so we got the “Door Buddy” and that works great. Zoey can’t get in the shed! 😅🙏🐕‍🦺

We also found our security camera that has been missing (I know - great security 🤪🤪) and ironically, it is shaped like a 😻cat… I say it was meant to be the CAT CAM

There’s A LOT of footage though and I don’t remember signing up to be a cat content creator, so please enjoy a few random clips of the cats 🐈🐈‍⬛🐈 going in and out of the she shed. 🥱😴😑 If you didn’t catch it, check out the barn cats highlights on our profile to catch 🐈 Barney torturing 🐕‍🦺Zoey. 🤪😽

The Blue Trail
Yesterday, Zoey and I managed to figure out the blue trail at

It starts between the she shed and the house, where the water flows out from the woods.

Following the dry creek bed uphill, I came to a Y or fork in the trail. One side leads back to the house and the other leads to our massive red oak on the other side of the she shed.

I continued to follow the blue trail uphill to “the END,” which is at the top of the gorge.

I then turned and started following the gorge trail back towards the house and found more blue blazes! I then stumbled on some more blue trail options that led me back to the Y, and then I noticed the blazes I missed before.

So the blue trail basically is a loop with many options! How cool is that?

Week Four:
We’ve had the barn cats 🐈 🐈‍⬛🐈for a while now so it’s time for their freedom!

I’m really concerned about Zoey🐕‍🦺 though…I need a better solution to keep the door ajar but not open. She busted through my jerry-rigged solution last night and I had to drag her out.

Pardon my mini-scream at the end. 😱

Exploring with Zoey: found an underground spring, neighboring deer blind, a road, wrecked treehouse, some more blazes and I tried the hammock.

week three:
We installed the shelves in the she-shed for the cats🐈🐈‍⬛🐈and it looks like they have adapted to having their food high up, away from Zoey🐕‍🦺🙏🤩

Next, we figure out the door situation to let them have access to the outside😱🌞😽🤞

So the question is who needs when you have a huntress like Zoey? 🙏🐕‍🦺🐈🐈‍⬛🐈🙏

Week two with the barn cats:
Well, the weather continues to be cold and we actually got snow on Tuesday last week… And today! But the barn cats seem to be doing well in spite of the freezing temperatures. ☃️🐈🐈‍⬛🐈❄️

My dad was curious about what the cats do all day and I have no idea because we have no camera in there. But I did leave my phone in the she–shed for 15 minutes yesterday and we got to see Tilly chow down on the Friskies buffet.

The SPCA recommends keeping them confined for two weeks, but we decided to keep them an extra week because of the cold and because we need to figure out how to manage our dog, Zoey 🐕‍🦺 from walking in to the she-shed (once we leave the door open) and terrorizing the cats.

Zoey got in yesterday and freaked everyone out, including me. She tried to get in again but I took the ice water from the cats dish and dowsed Zoey in it. She understood I was mad and showed me her belly when I came back in the house.

We have some extra shelves that we will put in the shed so we can elevate the crates high enough for the cats to get in for safety, away from the dog until she can calm down and be friendly. Stay tuned. Advice is welcome. 🙏

Week One with the barn cats: We’re getting to know the barn cats better. At first, I had pillows everywhere inside of the rustic plywood cabinets leftover from the renovation, kibble mixed with a can of friskies, and a covered litter box. 👎👎👎🐈🐈‍⬛🐈 Barney was sleeping in the litter box, there was 💩 all over the pillows and blankets, and the food was hardly touched.

They love it behind the wooden boxes, up against the wall, nestled behind a cardboard box of window screens. I tried putting the pillows there but they said no thanks.

So I turned the crates towards the wall and lined them with straw. This they like! They also like the dry kibble separate from the canned food. They’re using the litter box without the cover. Maybe I’ll try putting it back on. Got any advice?

We got our first farm animals today! Please help us welcome our new barn cats, Scout, Tilly, and Barney! 🐈🐈‍⬛🐈We adopted them from the Tompkins County SPCA today. They’ve had a rough winter as their previous owner perished in a fire. We will do our best here at to help them enjoy their new life with us.

Meet our new barn cats! They’ve had a rough life and hopefully we’ll give them a good place to live and thrive! Welcome ...
