Beaches Nature Therapy is coming to Riverside!

Caroline is a Jacksonville native and University of Florida graduate. She recently moved back from Gainesville and is excited to see kids out in nature!

Caroline specializes in helping kids with sensory challenges and learning differences learn to regulate, connect, and live their best lives!

Instead of teaching kids to tolerate a life they hate, teach them how to build a life they love.

Our kids deserve to be authentic and safe.
They deserve to be accommodated.

They should not be taught to accept mistreatment or ableist biases from others. Like yeah- we can’t necessarily change the harmful attitudes of everyone (I’m gonna try). But we don’t have to teach our kids that those attitudes are ok, either.

I don’t think I’m being extreme about this.
Feels reasonable to me.

🚌 The countdown to school is on—but there’s still time to strengthen key skills to help your child feel calm, confident, and ready to learn! Here are 5 fun, hands-on activities are great for supporting fine motor, visual motor, and attention skills at home—no worksheets required.
🍎 Lunchbox Practice: Have your child open food containers, zip snack bags, and peel fruit themselves.
📌 Tweezer Games: Use tweezers or tongs to pick up small items (cotton balls, beads, LEGO).
🎒 Backpack Readiness: Practice packing a backpack with books, folders, and a water bottle—can your child zip it up independently?
🧩"Ready to Learn" Routine: Practice sitting at a table with a short activity each morning (puzzle, coloring, lacing card).
⏱Timer Tools: Use short timers (2–5 mins) to build stamina for quiet play or clean-up tasks.
🔎Treasure Hunt: Hide objects around the house and give simple visual clues to find them.

💡For whoever needs to hear this OT insight today as we battle through the heat and last week of summer: Your child isn’t trying to ruin the day. They’re doing their best to cope. When we meet sensory needs early, we can often prevent the meltdown before it even starts.

We are excited to start our Dutton Island Nature Social Groups on Saturdays 9-11:30a starting Sept 6 - Nov 22. Kids explore, create, and connect while building coordination, confidence, and emotional regulation in a fun outdoor setting. ☀️ OT Water Relay Challenge! 💧
Let’s turn summer play into sensory and motor fun! Try this OT Water Relay Challenge at home ⬇️
🪣 What You Need:
-2 buckets (one with water, one empty)
-A sponge or cup
-A starting line
🏃‍♀️ How to Play:
Kids run from the full bucket to the empty one, carrying water with the sponge or cup, trying to fill it up first.
Add a twist: walk on a line, crab walk, or hop!
🎯 Targets:
Gross motor coordination
Bilateral integration
Sensory regulation
Impulse control & turn-taking
😎 Great for backyard fun or a playdate
