Caregiver post:

I stopped listening to music after Nicholas' injury because it physically hurt to much. Every song populated a memory or feeling, and I wasn't ready to feel anything. I didnt want to feel anything for a long time. I just wanted to fix nick. I want to be there, eyes on him, to make sure he was OK. I coped with his incident through disassociating, I removed my heart from the equation so I could make important and rational decisions about his life.

Almost 3 years later, I have worked through my grief and my feelings. I am better. I do not watch the office 24/7 anymore. I am able to sit in silence. But the biggest thing that I want to share, is now I can listen to music without devastating heart break. I can sing. I can dance. I can close my eyes and let a song wash over me, yes even apple bottom jeans, and be *happy*

I am able to feel my feelings now and be OK with it. Whatever my feelings are. I was only able to do this through an amazing support network of friends and family. Yall are the reason I'm still going 💚

I'm OKAY! My ventricles did increase in size, which affected my optical nerve, but they only increased very slightly from my last CT in June. They are actually within a normal size range! So for now, I am okay, we're being discharged and going home. Thank you everyone for the well wishes, we dodged this one!

Welp, this is the shunt life. We were heading out of town to celebrate Christmas early with the family when we had to reroute to the ER because Nicholas' eyes were showing signs of a possible VP shunt malfunction. We've got 99 problems and hydrocephalus causes most of them!
