EHS FFA Places Fifth at National Contest
RICHMOND-The Edison High School FFA gained fifth-place honors during the 55th Annual National Arabian Horse Association Judging Contest in Tulsa, Okla., recently.
Four Edison students attended on Oct. 24-25 and were among 22 teams and 100 individuals from states all across the country, while the event was sponsored by the National Arabian Horse Federation. While there, students evaluated horses and gave presentations for judging, and in the end the team of Micah Larkins, Maddie Granatir, Mimi Ault, and Leila Sudvary gained fifth place in performance class with Granatir earning 10th place individually.
“The team evaluated 10 different classes of Arabian horses and gave oral reasons for four classes,” said FFA Advisor Kelli Pridemore, adding that the team was coached by previous advisor Chuck Cline. “The team placed fifth in the performance class, and Maddie Granatir placed 10th individually in the performance class.”
The students qualified for the national event by placing sixth in the Ohio FFA Equine Contest last spring, and while in Oklahoma they had an opportunity to tour various sites including an aquarium and the Philbrook Museum of Art. Pridemore said the team members were ecstatic about participating and enjoyed the experience.
“The students were excited to attend and demonstrate their equine knowledge,” she commented.
The Edison FFA currently has more than 100 members and they are getting ready for more upcoming competitions, including job interview and parliamentary procedure contests, while the annual fall fundraiser was winding down with items to be delivered in mid-December.
