Our team doesn’t just talk about saving lives!

At Bill Paxson’s Blood Drive, several LifeServe team members rolled up their sleeves to lead by example. Jodi Virden, Sommer Thompson, Shelly Schnell-Petersen, and retiree Deb Johnson were among the donors who came out to show their support.

Donor Recruitment Specialist Betty Van Gelder even drove more than an hour, from Oskaloosa to Des Moines, to donate. She loves visiting different donor centers and drives, saying the variety of experiences helps her better connect with the many donors she calls each day.

Shoutout to the DS crew for being professional, efficient, and friendly, making it a great experience for everyone!

The UNI community’s Panther Pride was on full display yesterday for our first-ever Panther Basketball Blood Drive!

We’re thrilled to share that 79 donors rolled up their sleeves to donate blood and save local lives, including an amazing 37 first time donors!

A sincere thank you to UNI Athletics and everyone who joined us at the McLeod Center.

And this is only the beginning. Starting next month, community members can donate blood year-round at our new Cedar Valley Donor Center. Stay tuned for more information soon!

Meet Keeley & Kambry: The Strongest Twins You’ll Ever Know

Born at 22 weeks / 125 days premature, Keeley and Kambry survived against all odds. After months in the NICU, they came home on oxygen, tiny but fierce, facing chronic lung disease, immune challenges, and severe BPD. Today, they’re thriving, curious, creative, and unstoppable.

Every milliliter of blood helped save them. Keeley received 12 transfusions (103 mL) and Kambry 11 transfusions (91.5 mL)...tiny amounts for us, life-saving for them.

Vermillion is leading the way in South Dakota by becoming the first community in the state to carry blood on ambulances through the Blood Out-of-Hospital Acute Resuscitation (BOAR) program.

In trauma care, the “golden hour” can mean the difference between life and death. By placing blood products directly on ambulances, EMS teams can begin transfusions immediately, on the roadside, in a home, wherever the emergency happens, instead of waiting until arrival at the hospital.

As Dr. Alex Smith with LifeServe Blood Center shared, “By having this available, you can get the blood in them sooner when they’re more likely to need it, then get them to the hospital, and they can start working on them in their trauma center.”

LifeServe is incredibly proud to support the Vermillion, SD Fire EMS Department as they take this lifesaving step forward for South Dakota.
