Our last walk in our animal walk series is the seal crawl! 🦭

Sliding forward on the tummy builds upper body strength + coordination, helping little ones use both hands together at meals and play.

✨ Try it at home: Lie on your tummy, push up on your arms, and wiggle forward like a seal heading to the ocean.

One slippery slide = more strength for everyday independence. 🌊

Hop into our next movement: frog jumps! 🐸

This playful jump helps develop wrist extension + balance, both important for exploring food with utensils and manipulating toys.

✨ Try it at home: Crouch low, leap forward, and land on your hands + feet. Bonus: hop between "lily pads" made with pillows, trivets, or chalk circles! You can also add a few "ribbits" to engage the core!

Small hops today= stronger fine motor skills tomorrow. 🖍

Next up: the crab walk! 🦀

This move builds strength in the hands, wrists, and core- the foundation for holding cups, using utensils, and coloring.

✨ Try it at home: Sit down, lift your belly, and "scuttle" sideways like a crab (forward + backwards too).

Big giggles + big strength= success at mealtimes and play! 🍽

Ready for our first animal walk? Meet the bear walk! 🐻

This big body play builds shoulder stability + endurance — the foundations for self-feeding and drawing skills.

✨ Try it at home: Hands + feet on the ground, hips high, roaring as you walk forward.

One silly walk = big gains for little hands! ✋🏽

Big Body Play 🐾

✨ Why Big Movements Matter for Little Hands ✨

Before your child can master the “small stuff” — like holding a spoon, stacking blocks, or scribbling with a crayon — they first need strong big muscles in their shoulders, arms, and core. 💪

That’s where animal walks come in! 🐾 They’re fun, silly, and secretly powerful for building the strength and coordination kids need for feeding, dressing, and fine motor play.

👉 Stay tuned this week as we share some of our favorites!

Hi friends 👋💛

Welcome to this little corner of the internet—I’m so glad you found your way here! As a pediatric OT, one of my greatest joys is walking alongside families as their kids learn and grow. Feeding and fine motor skills are big pieces of that journey, and I know they can sometimes feel overwhelming.

Here, I’ll be sharing simple, doable ideas to make everyday life easier and more joyful—things like:
🍎 tips for helping picky eaters explore new foods
✋ fun play ideas to build strong little hands and fingers
🥄 tricks to make mealtimes less stressful (and more connection-filled!)

And just between us… I’ve got something exciting in the works 🌱—community-based feeding enrichment groups where families can come together, support each other, and learn in a playful, low-pressure environment.

For now, I’d love to hear from you—what’s one thing about feeding or fine motor skills you’d love a little extra support with? Let’s start building a community where we can share, encourage, and celebrate our kids together. 💚
