Let’s talk bladder irritants!

Some foods & beverages are thought to contribute to urge incontinence, bladder leakage, and bladder pain. These irritants “tickle” your bladder wall making your bladder want to go pee…sometimes even when bladder is not full.

Day 1️⃣ of your pelvic physical therapy your PT may ask you about your fluid intake and what types of beverages you drink. It’s totally normal for them to continue ask throughout your care especially when managing symptoms.

Your PT will suggest fluid intake changes to increase hydration and reduce bladder irritants. My general rule of thumb for your fluid intake is that 2/3 of it should be water 💦

While these may not be the only factors causing urinary incontinence, consult with your pelvic physical therapist or medical doctor if stopping one or all of these items may be helpful for your condition.

Here’s to throwing it back to 2018 when I ran Berlin Marathon. My parents met me there to support and cheer me on. It was the best trip! It’s been 2 years since I trained or ran for a marathon. Must admit I’m getting the itch. 😆

Recently, one of my mamas went back to work. She said “I was really surprised to get back into it really quick. I am really good at what I do.” It almost felt refreshing to her after months of being at home with her baby.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Oftentimes, I talk to my postpartum mamas and they feel like they can’t catch up. Can’t catch up with sleep, can’t catch up with chores, can’t catch up with friends…the list goes on. There are good days & bad days. You may feel like you are not good at this. But, you are good at this! Your little one looks for you because you are their world.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Aloha Friday Everyone! 🤙🏾Coming at you with a bit of anatomy trivia. 🧠

Let’s talk about the relationship between two particular muscles--your piriformis and your obturator internus.

They both originate within the pelvis and attach to your thigh bone. They provide stability in your pelvis and hips with movement 🦵🏽 (See picture #2)

Because of this anatomical relationship, your hip pain is most likely pelvic floor-related too. If you have been experiencing persistent hip pain, it may be beneficial for you to see a pelvic floor physical therapist. Things to consider & important to explore for your healing and getting back to what you love!

YEAR ☝🏽 DONE! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

This time last year, I was picking up keys to my first spot ever. I shared a 125 sq ft. room with an acupuncturist & massage therapist for $375 a month. My assigned days were Sundays & Tuesdays. 😖 I literally had only a shelf for my supplies which included the bare necessities—yoga mat, 2 yoga blocks, stretch out strap, free weights, bands, and massage oil. I agreed to lease out space for 6 months, just to see…what would happen if I followed my dream? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Since then, I have grown into my own treatment space in the same exact building just a floor below. It feels like home to me! A space for me to do what I love the most—helping others to feel like the better version of themselves. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I’m thankful for the patients I have been able to work with so far and grateful for the trust they have placed in me to provide their care. They are the reason I do what I do. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

This is going to sound like an Oscar moment but I truly wanted to thank so many folks. I’m just going to tag you below & just know you had some special way of making this 1st year & my start worthwhile. Big or small, I will never forget it. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

I especially wanted to thank my husband for being my everything through this process. From helping me move, installing shelves, building things, handling administrative stuff I did not want to tackle, allowing me to be OCD, and the coach that tells me how it is and how it can be. Thank you for sticking through it all even in our first year of marriage. I love you 💕 You are my rock. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
