Many think of safety as restrictive risk reduction or risk avoidance, such as slow driving and not driving in harsh weather conditions. Our focus is closer to training drivers the skills necessary to handle hazardous conditions or situations where evading threats is necessary.
While risk mitigation is important, making everything 100% risk free is impossible and if it was, nothing would get done. Being prepared to handle incidents that arise is essential to any organization.

We understand that situations at work can be urgent and pull away from class attendance, especially for leadership but we also believe time dedicated for training should be time where everyone can be fully engaged and learn together. So as part of our consulting service, we will help coordinate strategies and contingency plans to help keep operations running smoothly with reduced evolvement of the students in our classes, during the duration of each class.

There are three questions regarding situational awareness when assessing safety before giving first aid care.
#1 what dangers are present? Bodily fluid potentially containing pathogens, broken glass, damaged wires etc.
#2 How susceptible are you to those dangers? What PPE you are wearing, how close are wires to the patient, if you have breaks on the skin of your hands etc.
How can you make the situation safer? Barriers yoy can use between your skin and an open wound, how hazards can be avoided etc.

Once these details about the situation have been determined, you will apply this information to your personal risk tolerance and make decisions based on the care you give.
Remember, you can be a hero but only as long as you are not a second victim.
