It is April Fools’ Day but don’t be fooled by these first aid myths.
Myth: You should put butter on a burn.
Fact: Butter will trap heat and make the burn worse.
Myth: Training your employees to provide first aid to customers creates liability.
Fact: All actions taken in good faith within someone’s training, are protected by Good Samaritan laws. High quality training and American Heart Association, American Red Cross or Health and Safety Institute certification reduces severity of incidents and provides extra protection for the business.
Myth: An AED will shock someone to life like jump starting a car.
Fact: An AED will stop a non sustainable heart rhythm. CPR is still necessary to manually pump the heart until it can beat on its own.
