“How do you stay so consistent?” 🤔
🥅⚽️ Set SMART goals
These are goals that are specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time based.
❌ I want to lift heavier!
✅ I want to add 5-10lbs to my bench press, 15-20lbs to my squat, and 20-30lbs to my deadlift in the next 12 weeks.
📝Once you have goals, track your progress!
Small changes accumulate into big gains and the only way to check yourself is to keep good records. Appropriate tracking also is the best way to ensure you are utilizing progressive overload to maximize your progress.
I suggest using an app or finding a coach with tracking integrated into their program.
🫂 Don’t go at it alone, find support!
This could be from a partner, a friend, or family member. Just make sure this person is also interested in being committed to this routine and is able to hold you accountable. They say we are the average of the 5 people we spend the most time with — this applies to our fitness too! Seek out that “fit friend” and try to pick up on some of the habits they have formed.
Joining a gym is another great way to find community around exercise!
🛍️ Reward yourself for staying on track!
I always encourage treating yourself to a non-food centric reward when reaching a milestone or after being consistent for a period of time. This could be a new outfit, a massage, or new gym gear.
🤸♀️Do something you actually f*cking enjoy!!!
Let me clear the air on this real quick, there is no “best exercise”. There is only the exercise that you will actually do… And we typically only want do the things we enjoy. Thank goodness for free will 🙌🏻
If I was to tell you that you should only run and you LOATHE running… you won’t be successful. You might stick with it for a little while, but you won’t want to make it a lifelong habit.
However, if you love to bike and I give you the “permission” to exercise in the way you find enjoyable, you are going to be far more motivated to hit the pavement.
I will add the caveat that we need a balance of resistance, cardiovascular, and mobility training as well as exercises that develop athletic traits. The key is finding what works for you 💪🏻
