"Goals give our eyes a focus, our mind an aim, and our strength a purpose. Without their pull, we would remain forever stationary, incapable of moving forward. A goal is a possibility that fulfills a dream.”

What you choose to think about largely determines how you will perform. To avoid an emotional roller coaster, choose to think effective, helpful thoughts in all situations, rather than allowing yourself to feel down during adversity and confident only when things are going your way.

It's common for athletes/performers to operate on their "feeling" levels. (Feel good, play well. Don't feel good, give in and performance suffers). Focus on staying committed to your purpose and not by how you happen to feel on a given day.

Coaches, what are some ways you build confidence among your players and team?

12/05/2022

"At the very hub of all athletic activity are the coaches - men and women who form the nucleus, giving life to the sport experience. Coaches play the single most important role in shaping successes or failures, satisfactions or frustrations, and joys or sadness of the sport experience for young athletes." - Coaching Mental Excellence

Happy December!

We would like to know:

A. What are your performances?
B. What percentage of that performance is mental?
C. How often do you practice/train the mental side of your performances?

Parents/Coaches/Athletes/Performers:
You cannot control what happens around you, but you can control your response to it, and you must be in control of yourself before you can control your performance.

Praising children’s intelligence harms motivation and performance; this implies that you either have intelligence or you don't.
To reinforce behavior, praise the EFFORT put toward getting to that "intelligence".
Instead of saying, "You are so smart!", say, "You worked so hard on that assignment! I know it took a lot of patience and determination to get it done."

Expectations produce unwanted pressure and consistently result in subpar performances. Expectations, good or bad, are all about outcomes and results, neither of which can be controlled.
Good performances tend to happen more often when:

a. there are no expectations for the outcome;
b. you allow the activity to unfold vs. trying to force things to happen
c. you trust your training, process, and plan

Happy Veterans Day! Thank you to all who served and those who are still serving our country!

In sport, there's always an "underdog" and "the favorite". These mindsets are not necessarily an accurate description of reality. They're an illusion of the thinking mind, which can disrupt our ability to focus on the present moment. Making a conscious choice to focus on relevant tasks of games/performances is what's important.
