IAFF Local 3828 is comprised of professional firefighters serving Kelso, unincorporated Longview, and Castle Rock Washington.

The crew officially made it to Georgia yesterday! They drove about 3,000 miles in four days experiencing every type of weather. From sunshine to tornados!

They were assigned to the Pineland Road Fire (32,569.1 acres w/ 23% containment). The crew will be on day shift, working as a single resource until the rest of the strike teams arrives. Then they will transition into a full strike team working larger areas along side WA DNR.

🔥2026 SE Georgia Complex🔥

C2FR, along with WA DNR were requested to be a strike team and head to Georgia to assist with the fires in the south.

The strike team consists of 4 DNR rigs and one C2FR rig staffed with a four person crew.

Georgia is currently experiencing a severe drought causing the fires to spread rapidly. There are two large fires that are part of the SE Georgia Complex.

Hwy 82 (Brantley Fire):
- 20,933.4 acres
- 7% contained

Pineland Road Fire:
- 30,004 acres
- 10% contained

Once the crews arrive in Georgia they will be assigned to one of fires.

A Shift taking advantage of the beautiful day! They took the ladder truck around town to practice short jacking the truck on uneven terrain and setting up to ladder the building. Practice like you play folks! ☀️🚒

“Kelso, WA - Firefighters from Cowlitz 2 Fire & Rescue responded to an activated fire alarm at 510 Kelso Dr. at 1:39pm Saturday. Fire crews arrived and reported smoke showing from the front side of the building and upgraded the call to a working commercial fire. Firefighters evacuated all guests and employees from the Hotel and began fire suppression efforts. A second alarm was also activated.

Multiple agencies from the area are currently on scene including Cowlitz 2 Fire & Rescue, Longview Fire Department, Clark Cowlitz Fire & Rescue, Columbia River Fire & Rescue, Cowlitz County Fire Dist. 6 (Castle Rock), Cowlitz County Fire Dist. 5 (Kalama), Lewis County Fire along with Kelso Police, Cowlitz County Public Works, and Cowlitz County Public Utilities.

No injuries have been reported and the cause of the fire is not known.”

Earlier this week, a couple of our members of IAFF Local 3828 attended the 2026 Washington State Counsel of Fire Fighters Legislative Conference. At the conference, they discussed real life safety concerns of firefighters with the legislators of the 17th, 18th and 49th Legislative Districts. As well as networked with other locals in attendance at the Legislative Conference.

Thank you to everyone who joined us in September for our Tap Takeover fundraiser with With this money we raised we were able to go to 3 different elementary schools in Kelso, measure and distribute over 140 coats to keep kids warm this winter!!! Stay safe, and have Happy Holidays

Make sure you keep your Saturday open! This Saturday, September 27th the Tap Takeover is taking place at Explorer Brewing Company. All proceeds are going to Operation Warm Coats for Kids! If you have time, stop by to support. There will be Food, Drinks, and Raffles. Hope to see you all there!

Cowlitz Strike team is home and safe from the . The crew mainly worked on protecting structures in the area but were involved with various other tasks as well.

2025 Burdoin Fire.

Last Friday, 5 of our own headed east to Klickitat County to help fight the Burdoin Fire with the Cowlitz Strike Team. Currently they are on night shift working hard to contain the fire. They are conquering tasks like digging line and doing Burn Ops.

We are thankful for the Klickitat County community for keeping our crew and all other fire personnel happy, healthy, and well taken care of!

We also want to thank our crew and other crews on the fire for all the hard work!

Just about 24 hours away from our event! We’ll have great food and beer, as well as non-alcoholic beverages, and raffle prizes!! Come out and support our local community we hope to see you there!

Come join Local 3828 and Explorer Brewing as we raise money for Operation Warm! Operation Warm is national nonprofit that manufactures brand new, high quality coats for children in need.

The money raised through this event will go to our benevolent fund that will then be used to purchase coats to students in greatest need as identified by the elementary schools in Kelso. Help keep our community warm this winter! There will be food, great beer, and raffles.

This event will be family friendly from 3-5pm then from 5-9pm it will be 21+
