As we enter June and Father’s Day approaches, I am reminded of a story I heard recently about a father who received horrible news from his doctor just a year before he was set to retire.
He was diagnosed with a terrible, debilitating neurological disease. He was given 5 years to live, and told that within a few years, he would lose his ability to walk, would no longer be able to move his hands and arms to do even simple things like dress or feed himself, and would gradually be unable to speak.
Instead of spiraling down into a dark abyss of self-pity and sorrow, the father gathered his children by his side and announced that they were all going to travel together as a family much like they did when they were younger. He wanted to make memories with his kids that would comfort them and bring them joy instead of sorrow as he declined and eventually left this world. For the next few years, that is exactly what they did and when he passed, the children were left with cherished, shared memories of dad.
With Father’s Day around the corner, you are likely pondering what to get dad this year. But what if this year you did something different? Instead of buying dad material possessions, why not do what this father did – give the gift of time together, making memories as a family.
Why not share a trip with dad to Lost Horizon where you can escape everyday life to fish in the Lampasas River, see the wildlife, and relax around a campfire at night laughing and talking about all the important things in life like nothing at all.
Lost Horizon Texas is a secluded and private hill country glamping retreat within a 1700-acre exotic wildlife preserve close to Houston, Austin, and Dallas / Fort Worth. There are two accommodations fairly close to one another - The Satao, a luxury safari tent that sleeps 5-6, and the Hideout, a modern luxe tiny home that sleeps two.
What are you waiting for?
