Caring for a parent is an act of love—but it can also be overwhelming. Too often, children find themselves juggling appointments, medications, household tasks, and constant worry, leaving little room to simply enjoy time together.

At Nuclear Workers Alliance, we’re here to help lift that burden. Through the EEOICPA program and private pay care options, we provide compassionate, professional in-home care that supports your loved one’s needs—while giving your family peace of mind.

Our caregivers assist with daily activities, safety, and comfort, allowing you to step back into your most important role: being a son or daughter. That means more meaningful conversations, shared moments, and time spent together without the stress of full-time caregiving.

Let us take care of the caregiving, so you can focus on what truly matters—your relationship with your parent.

Today we’re proud to recognize Leah Berry, RN, for the incredible care and dedication she brings to Nuclear Workers Alliance every single day. Leah’s commitment, empathy, and positive attitude make a lasting impact on those she cares for and on our organization as a whole. We are incredibly grateful to have her as part of the Nuclear Workers Alliance family. 💙

Meet Leah:
"I graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Nursing from Washington State University in 2009. I started my nursing career directly out of college and have experience working in multiple clinical settings including Medical/Surgical, Labor and Delivery and outpatient OB/GYN. I started with Nuclear Workers Alliance in 2021 and have found great fulfillment in working with this community. I’ve always believed that home is where the heart is, and my goal as a caregiver is to make sure my clients feel safe, respected, and happy in theirs. My favorite part of the job is the stories I get to hear from clients and the relationships/trust that we build. I love seeing the immediate impact a little extra help can have on someone's quality of life. When I’m not working, you can find me spending time with my family and attending all my kids activities and sporting events.

Please join us in thanking Leah for all that she does!

🌍 World Cancer Day 🌍

Today we recognize the workers and families impacted by cancer—and we honor those who worked at Department of Energy (DOE) sites where exposure to radiation and toxic substances was part of the job.

Under the Special Exposure Cohort (SEC), certain cancers are recognized as being linked to these workplace exposures. These include leukemia (excluding CLL), multiple myeloma, non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, and cancers of the lung, breast, thyroid, bone, liver, stomach, colon, skin (melanoma), kidney, pancreas, brain, urinary bladder, o***y, esophagus, gall bladder, and salivary gland, among others.

Through the Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation Program Act (EEOICPA), eligible workers—and in many cases their survivors—may qualify for medical benefits, compensation, and ongoing care related to these illnesses.

You don’t have to navigate this process alone. Nuclear Workers Alliance is here to help you understand your eligibility and access the benefits you may be entitled to.

💼💙 By the Numbers: EEOICPA at Work

Over $4.7 BILLION has been paid out to Hanford and PNNL workers through the EEOICPA program.
That represents 41,214 individual claims filed under Part B, Part E, and medical benefits—real compensation for real workers and families affected by occupational exposure.

If you or a loved one worked at Hanford or PNNL, you may be eligible for benefits.

Julie Young, LPN has worked in the medical field since 2003. Her journey began as a trained Caregiver onto a Certified Nurse Assistant, Medical Assistant, up to today where she is a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). Julie is currently working towards obtaining her Registered Nurse License, with only 4 classes to complete before entering the Nursing program.

"I am really excited to finish out what I started years ago, which is to be a Registered Nurse. I have enjoyed working in so many areas: Hospice, Corrections, Long Term Care, Family Medicine, Infectious Disease, but my favorite has been in-home care. I enjoy the one on one with my Client and enjoy the bond that we can share. I have been doing in-home care since 2019, and definitely am looking forward to the future."
