When women gather, transformation is possible!

Last night (3/27), I was the keynote at the 3rd Annual Empowered Women’s Mixer at Carthage.

The Carthage College Office of Equity & Inclusion deserves their flowers now—the whole event and energy was a vibe!

There were women of all hues sharing space.

They were guided through The S.I.S.T.A. Method®—5 keys to inspire standing on their story, speaking up, seeking support and serving without burning out.

I shared pieces of my testimony and travels around the world while partnering with amazing people.

Here’s what an attendee shared on Talkadot: “It was the BEST part of my day -- walked away with tips and actionable steps I could take to avoid burnout and find time to re-center and give myself grace.”

Women, we deserve more than an applause for tolerating a world that continues to try and erase us—our experiences and evolution. Oh, to be a woman!

Take up space that’s aligned with your soul.

Thank you Carthage College’s Office of Equity & Inclusion for inviting me as your keynote speaker.

Major thanks to Dr. Michele, Endia and Julia.♥️

P.S. Call or send a message of love to a powerful woman in your life. Don’t wait until later. Promise?

Perfectionism isn’t a standard—it’s self-sabotage.

This limits your capacity of tolerance.

It pushes you into an all or nothing way of living:

❌ Overanalyzing every single decision
❌ Avoid taking action unless it’s “perfect”
❌ Beating yourself up over small mistakes

Sounds familiar?

Perfectionism is a prison disguised as a standard.

A few mindset shifts to redefine your capacity:

✅ Done is better than perfect
✅ Progress is better than pressure
✅ Learning is better than performing

P.S. What will be the noticeable difference in your life, if you freed what you’re overthinking right now?

We listen, we don’t judge.

The world functions better with social workers.

Intercessory and academically trained ones.

Every organization could benefit from a social worker—from community, colleges to corporate.

Social work isn’t just about clinics and crisis response but about supporting people in many ways.

Bridging the gap between challenges and change.

Here's how:

- Communities: Advocate for resources that strengthen families and advance DEIBJ.

- Colleges: Support student and staff mental health.

- Corporate: Enhance workplace wellness culture.

Social work gave me the foundation to serve unapologetically, intentionally and globally.

If you’re a social worker wondering if you can build something beyond traditional roles… YES you can.

Social work is not a box—it’s a launchpad.

If you're a member of the circle and need support, put on your oxygen mask first and speak up ASAP.

You matter too!

Also, contact National Association of Black Social Workers and National Association of Social workers.

P.S. Share a message of love for the world.

P.P.S. Grateful for 18 years as a social worker.

We see you. We support you. We care about you.

Thank you for choosing us to support you on your wellness journey.

At Beloved Wellness Center™, we stand firm in our commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, safety, justice, belonging and advocacy.

We have never hidden our values and never will.

The current social and political climate is weighing heavily on many of us, particularly those from vulnerable and historically disenfranchised communities.

We unequivocally support Black lives, 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals, immigrant communities and all people whose rights, safety and humanity are being challenged.

I want to acknowledge the wide range of emotions you may be experiencing—fear, anger, frustration, hopelessness, shame, guilt, and uncertainty. At the same time, many have also expressed resilience and determination.

No matter where you find yourself on this emotional spectrum, please know that your identity and lived experiences are valid. You deserve a space to process them without judgment and we are honored to provide that space.

Now, more than ever, prioritizing your mental wellness is essential. Therapy can be a grounding force, offering support and clarity even in times of uncertainty and joy.

Don’t wait until your symptoms or needs escalate to reach out—whether with me, another trusted professional or someone in your support system.

You deserve care, compassion and the freedom to explore your feelings and emotions with curiosity.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out or refer to our resources page.

In solidarity,

Dr. Dominique Pritchett

P.S. If you have scheduled appointments, we encourage you to keep them. If adjustments are needed, please provide at least 24 hours' notice for follow ups, as our practice is in high demand.

When you transform who you’re meant to be into who you need to be to thrive—this evolves capacity.

You will have to take risks and lose at times.

Process, pull out what’s needed and pursue forward.

Every stretch feels like a struggle before it becomes second nature. As a kid, you crawled before walking.

Many often are stuck asking:

Why can’t I just be who I was?
Why does growth feel like loss?
Why do I have to start over again?
Why does this sound like a record?
Why do I have to be uncomfortable?

Now, evolve your thinking to ask:

How do I apply lessons without repeating behaviors?
How do I take certain risks without burning out?
How do I build flexibility for lasting growth?
How do I evolve without overextending?
How do I trust who I’m becoming?

Capacity isn’t about doing more—it’s about making space and shifts to play the game of life. Yes, a game.

Focus on what truly matters.

Sometimes, it means shedding an outdated version of yourself so you can move on with or without fear.

It means embracing the power of enough.

Keep evolving your capacity—without breaking.

So, instead of asking “why,” start asking “how.”

P.S. What’s your response to a “how” question above?

Praying for everyone impacted by the plane tragedy. The ripple of trauma is felt for miles.

From firing the FAA director, hiring freeze, safety advisory committee dismantled to a mid-air collision (first after 16 years)—they blame DEI.

As I prepare to fly today, 🙏🏽🥹.

Mental civility is a strategy to prevent burnout.

This requires composure and constructive action.

(Don’t twist this with passivity or fear.)

It’s the practice of self and social awareness, respect, empathy and openness in our functioning.

These are needed during challenging situations.

Civility can enhance ethical decision-making, social justice, leadership and responsive communication.

Examples: active listening, agreeing to disagree, etc.

Incivility is the failure to respect someone and can lead to stress, crises, low productivity and hostility.

Examples: microagressions, insults, devaluing, etc.

When I think of the practice of mental civility, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. immediately comes to mind.

If you could ask him anything, what would you ask?

Take a moment and jot down your thoughts.

As we change, many people will “wade in the water” (out of survival) and others will “wash” the moment away (out of cognitive dissonance and privilege).

As Dr. King said, “Sincerity and conscientiousness in themselves are not enough. Nothing in all the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity.”

— “𝘓𝘰𝘷𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘍𝘰𝘳𝘨𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘴,” 1964.

This is a timely reminder.

Those in the water: come up for air to keep going.

I hope you land in a place where you feel seen, supported and psychologically safe. You are worthy.

What happens when the survey results you’ve been avoiding confirms your worst organizational nightmares?

The ones your team has been silently suffering.

As someone that’s responsible for others, don’t wait until a crisis to create a space where people belong.

When this happens, people refer to their organizations’s culture as “toxic”: disrespectful, non-inclusive, unethical, cutthroat and abusive. (U.S. Surgeon General, 2022)

Unfortunately, some ignore symptoms of stress:

- Lackluster morale
- Subtle burnout signs
- Disengaged team members

(This used to be me for many years.)

We tell ourselves, “It’s not that bad.” Until it is.

The real problem? By the time you notice the breaking point, the damage is already done.

How do you know these symptoms escalated?

- When a loyal employee quits, leaving others questioning whether they belong.
- When satisfaction survey comments expose behaviors leadership and management ignored.
- When qualified applicants stop applying.

These aren’t subtle issues—they’re seismic.

Hopefully, they urge you to confront the sources.

Ignoring the signs won’t delay the fallout.

Guess what? You don’t have to wait to take action.

Start asking yourself and your team…

- What are we avoiding or not noticing because it feels manageable—for now?
- What signs of low morale, burnout or disengagement are easy to excuse?
- When was the last time we assessed and addressed the root of our workplace challenges?

This exposes what’s been hiding in plain sight.

Don’t wait for your next survey, resignation or crisis to confirm what you already know.

Reacting is not prevention, it’s an afterthought.

What’s one issue you’ve noticed that’s being ignored and could escalate soon? Reflect on it now. Prevent it.
