Ashtanga Yoga Outer Banks, NC

Ashtanga Yoga Outer Banks, NC Ashtanga Yoga Outer Banks is a space dedicated to the practice of Ashtanga Yoga taught in the tradition of the Krishnamacharya Lineage.

Students of all levels are welcome. Weekly classes and events available. The practice of Ashtanga yoga consists of a sequence of postures that integrates breath and movement and is taught at various levels, based on the needs and abilities of the student. The integration of breath and movement creates internal heat which purifies the body and increases blood circulation. This process of detoxification brings the experience of enhanced health and well-being, improving overall quality of life. The key to experiencing the fruits of this method of yoga is regular practice over time. As time passes, the body becomes strong and flexible. Balance and mental awareness are increased. As toxicity leaves the body, the mind becomes calm and relaxed. Together, we reach a deeper understanding of the human experience. The practice of Ashtanga Yoga brings about deep personal and spiritual transformation, a process of growth and healing. It is Michelle's intention to create a space that is warm, loving, and compassionate to encourage this process of evolution. Classes are offered at all levels. Please visit our website for an updated class schedule.

Ashtanga Yoga offers a great structure of fundamental movement and technique that can be adapted to each student’s current needs. What really sets this system apart is strong methodology for withdraw, concentration, and meditation focusing on the internal practice of yoga. The movement and postures keep the body and the mind healthy, the repetition helps establish healthy habits, and the breath work heals the nervous system.

Come learn about this practice with me! Wednesdays 1:30pm-3:30pm March 12-April 16 at Outer Banks Yoga or on Zoom.

Happy Full Moon πŸŒ•!

Happy Full Moon πŸŒ•!

Feb 12, 2025 at 8:53am ET Full Moon in sidereal Cancer in Ashlesha: Sea Change Coming

This Full Moon is in a powerful and fierce degree of sidereal Cancer called β€œAshlesha,” meaning β€œembrace” or β€œintertwine” in Sanskrit. Its symbol is the coiled serpent, representing the mythical Nagas: the half-human/half-serpent beings said to have rejuvenative, magical and even manipulative powers. Ruled by the Moon and Mercury, this Ashlesha Full Moon empowers us to connect our hearts and minds, embrace our deep feelings and authentic voices, and to get out of our own way so we can speak the Truth that flows through each of us. Being connected to the serpent and the kundalini, this Full Moon asks us to unravel what’s stuck and stifling, and to shed any old skins inhibiting us from being in deep alignment. We are being pushed to show up as our true Selves, even if it scares us - even if it ruffles a few feathers.

There’s an added intensity to this Full Moon because of the special degrees it’s in. These gandanta/sandhi bridging degrees signify that old ways of being, thinking, feeling and expressing are ending, and that it’s time to release what has been holding us back. In addition to the pressure we feel from the sensitive degrees, this Full Moon is also connecting to intense and chaotic Rahu, which can leave us feeling overwhelmed, overloaded, exhausted, spun out. But Rahu’s influence, if grounded and focused, can help us to be fearless, to think outside the box and step into our authenticity in ways we haven’t before. Connected to our karma, Rahu pushes us β€œto just do it.”

This Full Moon feels like a soft entry to the upcoming changes we will encounter come eclipse season (March) and other big planetary shifts in May. Take the opportunity now to really look at what is ending for you and what is opening up. This sea change is not easy and takes a lot of courage. Remember: the sign Cancer is a caretaker and a nurturer, so lean into the maternal inclinations it’s offering this Full Moon.

✨🐍Full Moon prompts below

Some things to consider:
🐍What is changing in your life?
🐍How do you feel each day?
🐍Are you comfortable speaking up?
🐍Are you biting your tongue?
🐍Are you standing in your authenticity, in your truth, in your genius zone?
🐍Are you comfortable expressing yourself?
🐍What changes would happen in your life if you stepped into your power and became as magnetic as you are capable of being?
🐍What are you doing to ground yourself in this time of change? This Full Moon encourages self care, simple and nourishing food, journaling, and breathwork that helps connect heart and mind.

Thank you πŸ™ to everyone for the birthday wishes. I wanted to share my annual reflection.
I have definitely been less active on social media lately. Graduate school has been intensive. My journey has brought me to a place where I needed more inward reflection. The most challenging aspect of being a healing artist is the self / other balance. What I have learned from 21 years of working with others is that if self-care is lacking, it can distort the work done with others. It is an intricate challenging balance to maintain and will be even more pertinent with my future work.
The past couple years have really turned me inwards in a deep way and incredible growth has been marinating. This upcoming year is looking to bring large shifts in my life. I will start my counseling internship this Spring which means I will start seeing clients.
I look forward to integrating the scientific practice of yoga with psychotherapy. To me, yoga goes inward so this is a natural progression. We do our practices but it is our inner world that shifts. By combining physical exercise, breath work, and mindfulness practices, the possibilities for healing and the ability to bring more self-awareness and balance to life are endless.
I love to embark on this journey alongside others, so I think I will revel in this work as I discover new levels of my craft. I am still practicing Ashtanga Yoga in a way that suits my body and energy daily. It still remains the core of my self-care and spiritual practice.
I hope to be able to share more on social media soon. I am also still teaching yoga and pranayama through zoom, privately, and at . I have honed my skills at what I call a great Yoga Consultant. I am also available for Coaching sessions and private Yoga classes by appointment. My new website reflects this growth.
