Today 6/22/22, marks Matthew's 1 year post-transplant. Since we have been home at the end of last August we have been making weekly trips to Milwaukee for care. With months of at home & hospital picc line care in December 2021 the picc line was removed (something that was in him since February 2021). He also had a bone marrow biopsy in December 2021 which came back negative for leukemia. Since January Matthew has developed GVHD (graft versus host disease) which has effected his eyes, mouth, GI tract, skin and now currently in his lungs, which has lead to seeing other specialists for this care. We are very grateful for all the doctors & nurses care during this time. We are very hopeful that a new medication will help reduce the scarring in his lungs (which reduces his airflow). He was admitted additional days to the hospital for lung issues. He is managing through all of this, doing okay & keeping a positive attitude. Looking back at this last year and a half it sure has been a long haul! Thanks to all who have been there to support him along this way. Thank you to everyone for all your thoughts & prayers.

Hi Everyone,
Matthew is now back home after spending most of the summer in Milwaukee and this far is doing good. With no immune system he is very limited on what he can and cannot do as it takes months to rebuild the immune system. There will be multiple trips each week to Milwaukee for labwork.
I would like to Thank all of the doctors and countless nurses at Froedtert and Children's Hospital that took care of Matthew and Thank you Ronald McDonald House.
Again, Thanks everyone for all of thoughts, prayers and kindness.

Matthew got discharged this past Monday after spending 49 days in the hospital and over 90 since February 1st.
Everything is going good. Matthew is tired but overall is doing ok. His new cells are growing and he is getting stronger every day and is getting through this one day at a time. He is now staying at the Ronald McDonald House and will be there until after Labor Day with several appointments every week for lab work and if there is any complications that would arrive we can get him over to the hospital immediately.

I want to give a special Thanks to all the Doctors and Nurses at Froedtert and Children's Hospital. They are all amazing.

Thank you.

Update on Matthew
Matthew finished his intense chemo this past Sunday. Monday was a rest day from chemo. Tuesday evening 6/22/21 Matthew received his bone marrow transplant from anonymous donor that was a perfect match. The transplant took five hours and went very well. The red bag that you see in the picture is Matthew's new bone marrow (the transplant goes in like a blood transfusion). Matthew is doing ok and will be in the hospital for the next 6 weeks to be closely monitored and also that his new cells can grow.
Thanks everyone for all of the thoughts, prayers and kindness.
Love,
Matthew, Haley, Ann, Reed

Update on Matthew
Matthew finished his 3rd round of chemo today. Tomorrow Matthew will have another bone marrow biopsy again to make sure he does not have any leukemia cells present. Then we will be making multiple trips down to Froedtert/Children's hospital in Milwaukee between now and early June for multiple testing as he gets prepared for his bone marrow transplant.
