Although dry and dehydrated skin sound like the same problem, these issues are so different! Dry skin lacks oil and is a skin type (genetics/age) while dehydrated skin lacks water and is considered a skin condition (can be fixed/temporary).

Dry skin does not produce much oil and lacks the necessary lipids to retain moisture and protect the skin from external stressors. If you have dry skin, you will not struggle with breakouts and will likely need to focus on barrier repair. (Check out my winter skincare tips reel for more tips).

Dehydrated skin lacks water and even if you’re properly moisturizing the skin it can still be dehydrated. This is can be due to a number of factors (sometimes a few of these working together) such as external elements, diet, lifestyle choices, over exfoliation, the wrong products at home, water intake, etc. If you are experiencing breakouts but also feeling dry, your skin is likely more dehydrated rather than dry. Common signs of dehydrated skin include dullness, redness, congestion, and inflammation (breakouts). Some tips: hydrate, Avoid dehydrating beverages, use a gentle cleanser, hydrating toner, hydrating serum/cream/balm, Increase antioxidants in your diet, discontinue harsh scrubs and exfoliants for a few weeks, and invest in a humidifier. All of this should help reset the skin. Then we keep skin in check with the proper regimen and lifestyle adjustments moving forward!

* You should leave the needling tools to the professionals
* Makeup wipes do not count as a cleanse
* No exfoliating with products that contain rigid edges
* SPF should be worn YEAR ROUND…even during this spooky month 💀🕷️🎃👻
