"Many of us have never learned to grieve openly. We were taught to hold it in, be strong and not burden anyone else with our grief — and most certainly not the person who is dying. In our attempt to stuff our emotions to make everyone comfortable, we lose our chance to be authentic about our feelings and to share our grief."

Join SevenPonds each month as Tani Bahti, RN, CT, CHPN, offers practical on-hand guidance to demystify the dying process. As an RN since 1976, Tani has been working to empower families and healthcare professionals to have the best end-of-life experience possible both through education and the … Co...

🌟 Let's raise awareness and encourage open conversations! 🌟

Have you ever wondered why patients, family members, and doctors may hesitate to discuss impending death openly and honestly? Here are some common fears that often contribute to this silence:

1️⃣ Fear that discussing death might make the dying person feel depressed.
2️⃣ Fear that talking about it might mistakenly hasten the arrival of death.
3️⃣ Fear that discussing death may burden those who will survive the loss.
4️⃣ Fear that talking about it might result in a loss of hope, leading to increased sadness or depression.

However, it's essential to note that research has proven the opposite to be true! Engaging in conversations about impending death, or even acknowledging the possibility, can actually alleviate suffering for everyone involved.

Let's encourage open dialogue, foster understanding, and support each other during difficult times. Together, we can help promote emotional well-being and compassion. 💙

Death
"It requires all of us who are mortals, all of us who love other mortals, to step and say, 'ENOUGH'. Death is not a medical event. It is a social event. It is a deeply personal event. We can understand it. We can console each other. We can accompany each other. We can reclaim dying." Kathryn Mannix "What happens when we die"

And I believe - by reclaiming dying, we reclaim living.

Most of us have never seen anyone die. Few have any idea what to expect as death approaches, and most have unrealistic fears about it. Kathryn wants to chang...
