Traditional Ashtanga is not practiced on the new or full moon and Yoga East does not hold Mysore classes on those days – making it a perfect time to take a break from your usual practice and invite in some nurturing, supportive practices!

But why doing Laura for a moon day practice?

1. Recognize the Cycles of Nature
Since these classes are only held on new or full moon mornings, it helps you connect to a rhythm defined by nature. Recognizing that rhythm helps us live in harmony with nature.

2. Supportive Energy
Each moon day class supports the energy of the day. On Full Moon days the class is meant to support and balance the amplified & external energy of a full moon. On days with a new moon, the class helps support the more muted and internal energy brought out by that moon phase.

3. Casual Introduction to Other Limbs of Yoga
Each moon day class includes some gentle yoga poses. But they’re also a great opportunity to practice pranayama breathing, meditation, and even chanting in a relaxes, no-pressure environment.

Look out for these special classes on mornings with full or new moons. They end up being about once every-other week.

Gentle poses, Reiki, & Yoga Nidra 💙 Join Deana Cavan, from Rett’s Roost and Michelle Verdi, from Yoga East, for a donation-based class for the grieving body. Can you truly relax - let go of everything pulling at your attention - and simply be present?

It can be surprisingly challenging to lie quietly for 90 minutes. To be still with just your body and mind. To not reach for your phone or skip ahead to the next song.

In our active yoga practice, we focus the mind through breath and movement. But in restorative yoga, we lose that crutch - there’s no motion or “next pose” to rely on.
The stillness itself becomes the practice.

Over time, the benefits can be profound: a calmer mind, reduced daily stress, an easier shift into “rest and digest,” and even improved memory and attention span.

Yin Yoga is the quiet complement to more active practices and sports. Slow, steady, and grounding, it balances the body and calms the mind.

We offer two Yin classes every week. Here are 3 reasons why everyone should practice yin:

1. Deep Release
Long-held postures go beyond the muscles to gently stretch the connective tissues - fascia, ligaments, and joints. This helps improve flexibility, mobility, and ease in the hips, spine, and hamstrings.

2. Stillness & Awareness
The longer holds invite curiosity and listening. As we slow down, we notice how our bodies move, release, and find comfort in stillness.

3. Restful & Calm Sleep
Yin activates the parasympathetic nervous system, easing tension and quieting the mind. Students often leave class peaceful and sleep deeply afterward.

Yin teaches patience, presence, and balance. A practice of softening, releasing, and tuning into the body’s quiet wisdom.
